When did you feel comfortable
with your DC driving in someone elses car? Meaning without you.
I don't know why - but I am having the hardest time with this

I'm still not, and probably never will be. For now, they haven't ridden with anyone else but myself and dh.

I haven't had to deal with this yet, but I'm not comfortable having her in any car for that matter. I have such anxiety about this

Re: When did you feel comfortable
I still feel uncomfortable, but I had no choice. When Michael was 3 months old each set of grandparents were given a car seat since they were watching him while I was at work. I still cringe, but trust that both my parents and IL's drive 100% aware of everything going on around them and make sure he's strapped in correctly, etc. It was hard at first, but now it's easy. Now (although 2 years old now) if needed, my brother will take Michael once in a while too - if you trust the person, it should come easier for you!

Re: When did you feel comfortable
I never even thought of this...we throw the car seat into friends cars all the time...whats the problem, most people can drive just as well, or better than I can! I can't believe that this thought goes through so many peoples minds! I let my friends drive me around all the time, so why not me and my kid....
Especially when I send the kid packing to my friends house for the day...good riddance I say!

Re: When did you feel comfortable
I've had her in my best friends car once but that's it. I haven't put her in any other car yet besides mine! I also would not take the car seat in and out.

Re: When did you feel comfortable
Since he was 2 months old. DS's babysitter comes and picks him up everyday so he goes in her car.

Re: When did you feel comfortable
My oldest son is almost 5 and he has NEVER driven in anyone else's car.
My HUSBAND just RECENTLY brought my son out for a ride without me in the car also.
I am a nervous wreck and I won't allow my children to be driven in someone else's car...but that's me and my neurosis!

My twin sister, there was no point that I DIDNT feel comfortable. We swap kids often so the cousins get to spend time together.

Re: When did you feel comfortable
See I guess my biggest problem is, I DO NOT like to be a passenger in ANYONE's car. It has been an issue I have had for many years and I have no idea how to get rid of this issue. I have no problems with my DH driving my daughter around, but the thought of anyone else - scares the crap out of me

The only one I'm comfortable with doing that is DH, he will take her to the stores with him if I'm getting ready or need a brake--lol

Re: When did you feel comfortable
My parents and my IL's take DS in their car when necessary (my MIL drives DS to my job every T&TH to drop him off when she goes to work..)
They are the only people I feel comfortable with- and again its only when necessary...
Other than that- DS is only in the car with DH or myself...
At no point have we needed to have it any other way

Re: When did you feel comfortable
The only time Sean's been in a car w/ another driver was when I was in the hospital giving birth to Kevin and my sister drove him in my car from my house to my mom's and to the hospital to see me.
I'm one of those not-so-comfortable-with-this moms, too.

Re: When did you feel comfortable
Our kids have never been in any car other than with DW or me. We've driven with other family members, and we don't feel comfortable with them driving us, we're definitely not going to feel comfortable with our kids!

I'm the same way. I was in a pretty bad accident in college in the passenger seat and am a nervous wreck if I'm not driving regardless of if the kids are in the car or not.

Re: When did you feel comfortable
Of course I feel most comfortable when DS is with me or DH b/c if there is an accident I have no question about what happened, but that doesn't stop me from letting him in the car with others. At this point though he has only been with IL's and his godmother
