what's your favorite town on LI?
dh and i are likely moving back to ny from north carolina. we're open to any area on LI, or even Westchester county.
any suggestions? thanks in advance!

To live in?
I like where we are living now, Holbrook. I did like growing up in Miller Place too.
I love Montauk and I love my parent's house there, but I don't think I'd want to live there year round.

If money were no object  , somewhere on the water - Sands Point, Lloyd Harbor, Centerport, Centre Island.
Since money is an object for us , we chose East Norwich, up by Oyster Bay. I used to live in Rockville Centre and love that town and even Long Beach (although only if I had parking!).

We've been looking in Port Jeff and it wasn't mentioned on that thread, but I like West Hills too.

I grew up in East Northport. I lived in Nesconset and Lake Grove.
Now, back in East Northport.
I also like Port Jeff, Centerport.
I like Mattituck and Cutchogue, but, don't think I could live there year round. DHs commute would be LONG!

that would depend on so many things!
for example:
*wanting land, or just a small lot
*wanting a town you could walk to to shop
*the size of the houses
*whether school districts are important
*whether prices/taxes are a factor
*whether you want to be near water or inland
i could name different towns depending on the answers to those questions!

That is a good reason. I just asked because, it seems like everyone is moving to NC from LI, not NC to LI. haha
yeah, there are definitely TONS of LI transplants down here in my area. i can understand why - cost of living is great, warmer weather... the only thing i don't like about it (in addition to being far from family) is that it's not close enough to the ocean (about 3 hours away). i really love living near the water...

I am starting to like Westchester more than LI!
There's a really cute part of Mt. Vernon, but I can't remember the name now!
I would love to move to Mahopac, but it's way up there if you're commuting into NYC

Long Beach
Rockville Centre
We live in Oceanside, I've grown up here and we have a house so we will stay for a while. But I always loved the towny feel to RVC, with the restaurants and movie theatres.
Long Beach is just so beautiful for the summer.

I have always enjoyed visiting Huntington, East Northport, and Manhasset . I have never lived on LI though....and I am 100% positive I never will, solely based on the $ factor.
