What should I do with my rings?

I'm almost 8 weeks postpartum and my rings still don't fit. Actually, they haven't fit since I was 18wks pregnant back in March. I gained a significant amount of weight and still have a majority of it to lose. I don't fit into most things I own. In an effort to feel like my old self again, would it be silly to get my rings resized now and then size them again after I lose the weight? Does that have a bad effect on the metal to warp the size multiple times? My rings are platinum, if that matters.

What should I do with my rings?

I remember having this issue and was advised against resizing..I just waited, lost weight and they fit again...in the meantime, I did find other rings to wear in their place...

My ring is white gold which is easily resized. They can also add these little ball things in the back that make the ring fit more snugly. Platinum is more of a PITA to resize I hear.

Re: What should I do with my rings?

I waited months after dd to see if my fingers would go back. They never did. I finally got them resized and they never got big again. They still fit 3 yrs later. I haven't lost that much weight but I feel like my feet my fingers will never go back even if I become stick thin haha.

My rings are platinum. They cut my band and soddered (sp?) in a piece of platinum and buffed it clean. You would never know. I know b/c I saw it and can see the to y tiny piece they added but unless I show you you can't tell.

I would wait longer to see. You could still be swollen not necessarily weight related. I think dd was about 6 months. It also cost a lot b/c it was platinum. This was 3 yrs ago

Re: What should I do with my rings?

I waited 6 months post partum and then had them re-sized. My fingers and my feet are larger than when I got PG. In the interim I got a super inexpensive fake band for like $15 to wear so I would not feel naked on my hand. My hands and feet never went back to my original size.

Re: What should I do with my rings?

Funny you ask. My rings didnt fit after DD was born. I kept trying to lose weight. I didnt wear them for many years but wore a simple ring in their place. I finally got my platinum rings resized last month, so I can wear them, DD is 5. I am still trying to lose weight, but I figure now or never. I missed my rings. I say get them sized and start wearing them. I wish I did sooner.

eta- my fingers and feet are also larger than when I was prepg (and I am almost same prepg weight).

I highly rec where I had them done. They were phenomenal. Loved Gennaro Jewelers in Bellmore.

Re: What should I do with my rings?

I would give it some time. I have heard that sizing a ring several times can put stress on the setting and could ultimately lead to diamonds popping out. Do you have diamonds on the sides at all?

I would give it some time. I don't know what kind of ring you have but if you have baguettes going down the sides, it can ruin your ring. My original e-ring had baguettes and the company sized it before DH gave it to me and after a while, I lost a baguette or two. When I told the appraiser what happened, he said they never should have resized it more than half a size and that's what ruined my ring. We ha other problems not related to sizing it but the baguette falling out started a hole chain of events that the jeweler effed up on and eventually we ha to fight for our money back. I got a new e-ring 4 months before my wedding. I've never had a ring resized since that incident!

This is where I did too. Highly rec. you watch them do it and it never leaves your sight. They have a camera they show you the marks in the diamond before and after its done. You sit and watch the guy in the booth resize it then they take you downstairs and you watch them buff it and finish it. Once done you go back to the camera and see the diamond.
He's not there all the time and I was told what day to come back and to get there early

I would wait. I'd be nervous resizing the rings multiple times.

Wait. I couldn't get my rings back on for awhile. I was told not even to try until my stomach went down.

I got mine resized. I lost 35 of the 40 pounds I gained, and 13 months later my rings are still perfect after resizing. My fingers and feet never went back to the original. Close, but not the same.

Re: What should I do with my rings?

Thanks everyone! I'm still undecided but I'm leaning towards waiting till I'm down most of the weight and then making a decision.

Give it some time. 8 weeks is too early to tell what's going on with your body.

However - you know how everyone tells you your feet will get bigger and stay bigger after pregnancy? And that you'll permanently need a bigger shoe size? For some reason, no one tells you that the same thing will most likely happen to your hands. WHY is it this big secret? My rings didn't fit after I lost my baby weight. Since then, however, I've lost 10 more pounds (Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon) so they fit again and I'm glad I didn't have them resized.

Re: What should I do with my rings?

Totally wait. I was going to get mine resized and at around 4-5 months they started fitting again (esp. when the weather got colder too hehe)

Mine didn't fit until 6 months pp when I started exercising and losing weight. I would wait until you reach a weight you want to stay at.

I would wait - most people I know could get them on after 4-6 months at the latest.

Unfortunately, mine still didn't fit so I got them resized - I waited 12 mos after DS 2.
