Re: what kind of thermometer are you registering for?

I registered for a digital ear, but after redaing the parents board, I went and bought a rectal. It was $10.
So now I have both.

Re: what kind of thermometer are you registering for?

I had registered for the ear one but didnt get it. I asked me pediatrician and she said nothing but rectal for the first year, its the most accurate with infants.

So I have one that came with a grooming set, but I also have the one from the hospital. They take your baby's temp every day, so take the thermometer from the cart before you leave.

Remember anything in that cart that you dont take, gets thrown out when you leave so take it all!

I got a 3 in one. It has three connections - one for ear, one for rectal and one for the mouth. You just interchange them - I got it a BRU.

I have both as well. I did not buy the ear one until DS was sick recently, but I swear there was no way I was waking up DS every hour to take a rectal temp while he was sick. I took the rectal temp and the ear temp at the same time & noted the difference in temp (which was not that much). I bought the same ear one they use in my Peds office.

Re: what kind of thermometer are you registering for?

Thanks for all the ideas! I didn't know if I should just get rectal for the first year or have the ear thermometer too. My mother thinks rectal temps are baby torture!

I agree. I have been doing it this way since he was born. The other like the forehead one and ear one are way off. My ped said only do rectal.

I cannot rave about this Vicks rectal thermometer enough. I went to a baby class given by a pediatrician before our DD was born and he recommended this thermometer. For the simple fact that it has a comfort tip and you cannot go too deep into the rectum (which I think scares everyone). It's fabulous!!

same! I got one in the American Red Cross kit that I registered for, I will use that later when the baby is older...for now as an infant I registered for the Hospital's Choice - 8 Second Digital Thermometer...it is top rated and takes rectal, which is what the books say you should take when they are infants.

I registered for one that you slide across the forhead. When i went to the ER(which I had the stomach virus), they said this was the 'new, most accurate thermometer'. When I saw it at BRU, I added it to my registry!

I was told not to use those. The baby could be just hot and that's not a determination for a fever.

All peds we saw told us the rectal was acurate.
