To stop living up to other people's expectations.

I spent too many years doing what other people expected me to do, that I never really forged my own way. I did things because they were expected of me, regardless of how unhappy I was.

One day I had enough, and I decided to start doing things that I wanted to do, things that made me happy. It was the best decision I ever made.

these are some great lessons.

i have learned to focus on what makes ME happy and not try to always obtain what i feel other people THINK should make me happy.

I'm trying not to be defensive.

Trying to remain calm when we have an argument and stay on topic, not to go to hurtful places that have nothing to do with the discussion at hand. (working on that one)

Stop and smell the roses every once in a while.

Not compare what parents do for other siblings to what they do for me. I wouldn't trade places with any of them, so I shouldn't compare their relationships.

i've learned that just because we are related, doesn't mean we have to be best friends.

i've also learned that i am a very different mother than my mother and my grandmother. it's not better or worse, just different. and i'm learning to take pride in how i'm raising my son. he's not an A student, but he's a good person and has a good heart.

I've learned

...never judge a book by its cover.
...it really is that little things that count.
...I am too trusting
...I need to regain the pieces of me that I left behind after getting married & having children.
