A first birthday! And what I have learned this year.
I can't believe my little baby is one!
I am trying not to be all sappy- but here is a list of what I have learned and wished I knew before so I could prepare (if that is at all possible- I am not sure it is)
So I have learned:
1- A whole lot about sleep. I knew I would be sleep deprived, but I had no idea how much. I didn't know that 6 hours straight sleep and 6 hours broken sleep are different, and I didn't know that I could function on 3 hours.
2- I learned the real meaning of high needs baby, and how to refrain from punching people with babies that sleep, and that even if a baby cries non-stop for 5 months, people are not lying when they tell you it will get better.
3- I always thought that babies fall asleep when they are tired. I had no idea they just get increasingly louder and crankier.
4- Of all the baby stuff I HAD TO HAVE, most of it is useless and I cringe now at the thought of how much money I wasted. I wish I had gotten over the fact that I had to have everything new and taken stuff from friends (like car seats and swings).
5- I didn't know that it would go by so fast, and that even though I can barely remember life without her it feels like yesterday that I could hold her in one arm and she fit in preemie diapers.
6- I had no idea that I was the kind of person that would talk baby talk in public and make stupid noises with people staring at me and not care because it made her smile.
7- I never thought a poop after a few days would make me so happy, and that I wouldn't mind staying up all night cleaning up puke and rocking her just trying to make her feel better.
8- I had no idea that I could possibly love my husband any more then I already did until I saw him take care of her.
9- I didn't know that one little thing could be such a source of awe, and wonder, and after a year I would still tear up sometimes looking at her because I can't believe how lucky I am.
10- I never thought that having a baby meant you have something to look forward to every day, and that my priorities would change so much. All the little things that I thought were important mean so much less now that she is here.
Look at that, I got sappy without even meaning to.
