What goes on a coffee table
Sorry if this is a stupid question, I just acquired my first coffee table, do you put things on it or no?

Be careful--they can become breeding grounds for clutter! 
On ours we just have a small potted ivy plant and our wedding album. Oh and of course the TV remote!

coasters in a small longanberger and 2 or 3 current magazines. We keep our remotes in a larger longanberger on top of the TV armoire.

A few magazines and a couple of coasters.
I don't put a candle on it b/c we have dogs and we put the remotes in the end table drawers..again..I have 3 dogs, it's been known to happen that a remote disappears.

Currently: laptop, remotes, tissues, tray that's supposed to hold the remotes and coasters. An empty glass, baby lotion and lots of fingerprints.

at the moment?
a remote, a stack of napkins, a pen, a bottle of water, the cordless phone, 2 cans of seltzer, 2 sets of car keys.
the shelf underneath the coffee table... about 80000 magazines. oh and my bpics album

prior to kids it was a floating candle dish with seasonal candles (snowflakes, hearts, shamrocks, santas, flip flops)
now it is kids stuff - puzzle train

I keep a glass dish with glass "candies" we bought in Venice and a candle. Ont the lower tier we have coasters and a big lenox bowl filled with wine corks.

my coffee table in my family room has nothing on it b/c it can also be used at a foot rest. When people come over i put chips and etc on it. But underneath i have magazines and my laptop

Ours has a shelf where I put magazines and catalogs.
It also has 2 baskets where I keep the kids books.
I actually want to get one that is a big square trunk type of thing so I can use it to throw toys.

we have a round coffee table with a shelf underneath.
On the bottom shelf is a basket with various remotes in it, but our Universal remote sits on the top of the table.
We keep a few magazines on the 2nd shelf also.
We have a round silver tray with some candles on it on the top, as well as some coasters.
