I plan to use Good Start like we did with Tommy 3 years ago. My. ed said it was closest to breast milk.
I dont understand this statement. Can anyone explain further? My ped said they're basically all the same since they have the same ratios of fat carbs etc. so how is one closer to BM than another?
They do have all the same nutritional values (that OS regulated across the board for all formulas on the market) It's the whey to casein ratio that differs between formulas. (Sorry, I can't direct link from my phone)

According to what I've read, Good start is actually the furthest from breast milk because it contains NO casein at all and the whey is already broken down. While it makes a baby's gut not have to work as hard to digest, it is not similar to breast milk.

Re: What formula are you using?
With Emerson I started out using Enfamil LIPIL but it was getting expensive so we switched over to the Target brand equivalent with no problem. It was less than half the cost of name brand.

Re: What formula are you using?
enfamil is what the hospital started us on and if it ain't broke, don't fix it! My doc didn't reccomend one brand over the other, even store brands vs. name. So really it's up to little one. DD take RTF but once we finish up our stash I will switch to powder to save money.

Re: What formula are you using?
DD has a very sensitive stomach and we went with Enfamil Gentleease after is stopped nursing. Then we switched to the Target version of it and DD transitioned great and it is MUCH cheaper

Re: What formula are you using?
Enfamil... Actually Enfamil is closest to breastmilk from the other brands. And the only brand that is made into a store brand is Kirkland (it is made from Similac), the others are an outside company.
How do you know which is closest - breast milk is made up a ratio of whey and caesin protein. The average mature breast milk is around 60 Whey protein to 40 Casein protein. This is what Enfamil is. Good Start is 100% Whey protein Similac is 30 Whey and 70 Caesin.
Similac is also the only brand that does not have the recommended dose of DHA of .2%. Enfamil and Gerber and Store brands do.
Anyway, I chose to do Enfamil for this reason, and my kiddies tolerate it well. You have to do what is right for you and your baby.

We supplement with similac advanced since that is what he got in the NICU and he did well with it.
