What do you expect from a babysitter?
I'm wondering this because I feel like perhaps I expect too much.
Does she do dishes? Fold laundry? Take child out? Clean after child? Etc., etc......
Thanks

Re: What do you expect from a babysitter?
I havent needed to hire an actual babysitter but I wouldnt expect them to fold laundry or do anyother dishes then what she/he produced for themselves. I would expect them to clean up after dc if they were playing together or ifnshe fed them.

Typical sitter is just responsible for your childs safety, meals, keeping them clean. Bedtime would be making sure they brush teeth & read them a book. I on other hand clean up (dishes toys clothes ect) when kids are in bed. I also drive them if needed. I bathe comb hair read tons of books & if they asked me to fold laundry & kids are in bed I would. I get paid $20 per hr though. I dont mind doing it to be honest.

No, just a regular babysitter.

I think it would depend on how long they are there for and time of day, etc. If it's the middle of the day and you suggest going outside, then I would expect them to do that. If they're there for a while after the kids are in bed I would think cleaning dishes/tidying up after dinner would be nice but not 100% expected. Same with toys or other general messes created, if they are there after the kids go to bed then I would expect things to be tidied up. If not, I would hope that things are out bc they were having fun playing. However, I would be upset if I walked in and things were a disaster. I wouldn't expect laundry to be folded at all.

A babysitter is not a nanny. To me a babysitter is just there to watch the children, nothing else.

I would just expect them to care for my children, and help the children clean up from any mess they made together (toys, food, etc.). I wouldn't expect anything beyond that as I don't feel it is a babysitter's job.

What do you expect from a babysitter?
When I was in high school and would babysit I never folded anyone's laundry. I was there to play with kids and when they went to bed I watched tv. I can't remember if I even cleaned up after them or put dishes in sink. My focus was the Holstein and playing and having fun with them. A nanny would be totally different and should have their responsibilities outlines prior.

I would not expect a babysitter to do anything more than watch my children.
One of DS's preschool teachers babysits for us occasionally. She does the dishes for us and always tidies up the toys after the kids go to bed. I really appreciate that she does that but totally don't expect her to. I usually tip her or round up by about $20 for cleaning up.
Nannies are usually full time employees whose duties vary widely. Some do strictly childcare. Others are more like housekeepers. Most seem to be somewhere in the middle.

Re: What do you expect from a babysitter?
Not like a live in Nanny? Just a babysitter for the evening? None of the above, just to take care of my children and clean up after herself or put any toys away they played with or dishes they used in the sink.

I expect my nanny (who is here from 7-5:30) to clean up after the kids, put dishes in the dishwasher and hand-wash bottle parts that need to be hand-washed. That's it. I want my house to be as clean as I left it but I prefer she spend her time with my kids and not cleaning all the time. When the kids nap I want the sitter to have some downtime because I know how much I need it on days I'm home with them (I work part-time). In terms of getting them outside, if she can do it on a nice day, great, but I know it's not the easiest thing to do. I expect she'll engage them most of the day... books, crafts, playtime, but how she chooses to do it is up to her.

Re: What do you expect from a babysitter?
I think you mean a nanny since they are taking care of your children all day.
My expectations of our nanny in the beginning was to obviously watch and care for our child, do the baby's laundry and put away, and tidy up the toys and any food dishes he used.
Yes she always brings them outside otherwise I think they would all go crazy.

I wouldn't expect a babysitter to do anything more than watch my child. I'd rather them be 100% focused on my baby and not doing household chores.

Re: What do you expect from a babysitter?
I wouldn't expect them to do dishes or fold laundry except if she was aware beforehand that the job also included maid duties.
However, she should take the child out if that is wanted and she should clean after the child. If they paint together, it should be entirely cleaned up. If the child gets messy, the child should be cleaned up. Things like that.
But the other obligations not so much.

Re: What do you expect from a babysitter?
For a babysitter, I would expect them to care for and pick up after the child. When I babysat as a teenager, I would play with the children, help them clean up their toys and I would put their dishes in the dishwasher.
I think the things you are describing could be the responsibilities of a nanny.

Re: What do you expect from a babysitter?
Ours plays with them, changed diapers, dresses them, feeds them and cleans up after their feedings (no dishes) and straightens their toys in the LR. Their playroom is a mess so there is no hope there.

This. A babysitter is there to watch and care for the child. Including feeding, playing/helping w/ homework, getting ready for bed, etc. A nanny would be paid more and can be responsible for everything a baby sitter is but may also have added responsibilities like taking kids to appointments/activities, dishes/ bottles/ child's laundry etc. a nanny might make meals for the kids , but I'd leave food for a baby sitter to feed that she didn't need to cook.

Re: What do you expect from a babysitter?
A babysitter should take care of the kids, clean after them (or help them clean up if they are bigger) but idt a babysitter is domestic help.
A nanny or au pair will do more domestic help
