What do you expect from a babysitter?
I would only expect a babysitter to watch the kids. No housework at all - although they may wash the dishes they use for the kids.
Is this a daily 8-5? If so I would tell them they can take the kids out if they want, but wouldn't expect it.

Re: What do you expect from a babysitter?
Thanks for all the responses. I am speaking of someone who watches a child under three, 3 days a week, from 8a-5p.
IMO, I would expect her to watch and take care of the child. Clean up after the child, do their dishes, and fold child's laundry if it was sitting in a basket unfolded, but cleaned (once and a while and of course during child's nap time)
I just wanted to make sure I was on track.

Typical sitter is just responsible for your childs safety, meals, keeping them clean. Bedtime would be making sure they brush teeth & read them a book. I on other hand clean up (dishes toys clothes ect) when kids are in bed. I also drive them if needed. I bathe comb hair read tons of books & if they asked me to fold laundry & kids are in bed I would. I get paid $20 per hr though. I dont mind doing it to be honest.
Wow! You sound like an awesome sitter, but I can't pay $20 an hour

Re: What do you expect from a babysitter?
I think it all depends how you set it up. I've had a number of babysitters who helped with housework and some that leave a mess for me to clean up. My current babysitter doesn't have her license so needs to come to my house before I really need her due to transportation. She helps with Landry and dishes in the morning and I pay her $40 extra week. It's less thn an hour of work a day. She then watches my kids and totally focuses on them once the are home from school. I would just talk to this babysitter

Re: What do you expect from a babysitter?
I have a babysitter/nanny 4 days a week, 9 to 6. She does laundry (washing and folding-doesn't put it away), and empties and reloads dishwasher. In addition, if she has time when the kids are sleeping she will vacuum or clean the kitchen/bathrooms. She takes care of my 2 younger dc (the older 2 are in school) and I pay her $20/hr plus metrocard. I know that many of her nanny friends do not do any housework but when I hired her I made it clear what our needs are so she knew what she was getting into.
