Wedding gift...How do I write the check?
Do I put both names, just one name, girls maiden name, girls married name? I'm so confused

I usually put Mr. & Mrs. Groomfirstname Lastname. I dont know if this is actually PC...I mean in the case the girl isnt taking the name maybe it's not  but with my friends that Ik now are taking their DH's last name I do that.
If I was unsure I would prob just make it out to both with maiden name. HTH

i usually write the check to the person who invited me.
hmm thats unclear... 
if i was friends with /related to the groom, i would write his name, if i was friends with/related to the bride i would write her name (and use her maiden name bc chances are she didnt change it through the bank yet)

That way either of them can cash it and it doesn't matter if they have a joint acct or not.

ITA We had some difficulties last year cashing our checks it wound up being a process although most of our checks were written out to "Mr & Mrs Groomsname" I definitely learned that it's just easier to write it out to cash.

that doesn't matter. they don't need to see proof you changed your name. BUT you have to sign everything first name maiden name new last name on EVERY check (at least at my bank). it was SUCH a process for me when i got married since i had to resign all the checks.
now i just do to the groom if he invited me or to the bride with her maiden name if she invited me.

i write mr and mrs. in the past i have been to numerous weddings where money has been stolen from the gift box. so i don't give cash or write a check to cash anymore.

I write it to the person who invited me... It was such a PIA to cash all the checks with both of our names on it and took some time AFTER the wedding.
this way, they could deposit some $ into the bank immediately for their honeymoon etc...

I usually make it out to one name, and if it is the female then I use the maiden name. This way the bank won't give them a hard time. Some banks give leeway for a wedding but others have been known to cause problems.

writing cash makes me nervous for the same reason giving cash does...it can easily get lost and someone else could cash it.
I think the safest bet is putting the name of the person who invited you or the one you are closer with.

After spending THREE HOURS in the bank after our wedding, I learned to ALWAYS write cash. What a nightmare. I had to sign all the checks twice and they gave me such a hard time

honestly i would never, ever make a check out to cash. i would feel horrible if the check was stolen - and yes, this does happen, even at the nicest reception halls.
i always make the check out to whoever we are closest to, either the groom or the bride with her maiden last name.
but i will say that we had no problems cashing our wedding checks no matter what was written on them. hell, my mother cashed the checks for me!!
