ugh, WalMart. I used to have to go all the time, to buy fabric for a business me and DH have. I hate WalMart. They are definitely cheaper, but I ALWAYS walk out in a violent fit of rage, swearing to never return.
Every time. A big offender is the line cutter. Happens all the time. And the lines take FOREVER.
I always prefer Target. i will pay the extra $$$, for the lack of stress.

For those of you commenting on the quality of stuff, how is their quality worse than target or another store, when they are selling many of the same toiletries, pharmeceuticals, food, etc. as the other places?
for that stuff is prob the same- there food doesn't seem as freash to me - at the ones up here-
just b/c the same toaster is at WM and target doesn't make it the same- WM puts pressure on suppliers to lower prices every year- well news flash- prices generally go up every year that I have been in the business
Stainless steel has go up alot, shipping has gone up alot- b/c of the gas prices and plastic has gone up b/c of gas prices (petrolium is needed to make it)
not to mention that as china becomes more advance- it's natural to see a price increase
so what to suppliers do?- take out more expensive materials and parts and use cheaper ones, use cheaper factories that don't pay over time,don't let the workers go to the bathroom, I could go on and one
they don't even do factory inspections! you can't sell anything to Macy's, Bloomies, JCP or most higher end stores with out the factories being approved

Thanks for the info. I guess b/c I usually only go there for toiletries, pharmeceuticals, or toys, I haven't really noticed. That is good to know though.

You just described Home Depot too.
then I wont shop there either- I actually bought a lock from HD for $40- and got one that actually worked from the local hardware store for half the price
I don't really know about home depot and that industry- I am only speaking about the housewares industry- since that is what I do

They are... I don't go to any Walmarts down here...it's gross.

I used to hate them...and was ideologically opposed to them too (  )...esp. after seeing the special on 20/20 (I think) about their practices with Indian labor...I even boycotted them. But I digress, once I moved to GA and found Super-Walmart and the land of super cheap detergent & cereal, I went over to the dark side.

My DH is an economist and was telling me that HD uses a lot of bad business practices.
ETA: I will never shop at Wal-Mart. I hate the atmosphere and they treat their workers terribly.

It's not just petroleum that's needed...that's the "least" of the worries...it's paraxylene and methylene glycol which compete with gas companies since both are used for resins (plastic) and gas.
I'm in the packaging biz, so I know a bit about that too!

For once, I do agree with you. I find that in other areas, where there are less choices for stores, there is a wider variety and range of people. On the LI stores, I do see more lower class people shopping there. Even though I do go there for good prices on occasion, I really dislike the quality of many of the people.

Here is my take on Walmart.... I love it if it is clean. I have been to some filthy ones....like the one on Hempstead Tpke. But, when I lived in Upstate NY they had a CLEAN store. Here in TX, where I live now....there are some Dirty ones and some clean ones.
