Tried Magnolia Bakery for the first time
Maybe my expectations were too high, but I really don't think their cupcakes are all that good.
We bought 6 cupcakes. Vanilla, chocolate, and red velvet. I tried a little bit of each....eh. I really wanted to love them after reading so many rave reviews.
Oh well! The search for the most delish cupcake continues!

really? I loved them, everyone is different. In queens there is this bakery called Marthas country bakery, they make really good ones.

I actually love crumbs a lot better than magnolia..they opened a magnolia by radio city which is right across the street from DH's office and he brings them home all the time for me, and I keep saying walk a few block and get me CRUMBS or I do like Magnolia's mini cheesecakes, so I'll take that too

I've never tried Magnolia, but every time someone raves about a new cupcake place, I never like them. Sometimes you can tell they freeze the cakes first, sometimes you can tell the icing uses crisco to get the icing white. Yuck! I really have only liked homemade, even homemade based from a box (like cupcake doctor). Not sure why, but I've never found a commercial bakery where I love their cupcakes. My mom made wedding cakes for a living when I was little, so I can be a bit of a cake snob. She didn't want to make my wedding cake, too much stress, but I really didn't enjoy bakery cake, I usually hate wedding cake, so I found a woman making them out of her home. so much better, don't know exactly what the difference is, but I can tell.

Martha's rocks. There's 3 of them, astora, bayside and forest hills. I wish they'd open one in LI.

I haven't had a chance to try Crumbs but have heard great things about it.
I could be wrong but I thought I read somewhere that someone else took Magnolia over? Maybe that's why it's not that good.
When I used to live in the city, we'd wait on line outside to go in for them.
ETA: I only like Magnolia when they are fresh and I eat them right away. By the time you bring them home they are often hardened over and not that good.

I love Magnolia cupcakes... but haven't had them in at least 6 years!
CRUMBS - not a fan AT ALL. but I got them through the mail, so not sure if it was different. I just felt like they are all about crazy frostings and the actual cake itself wasn't too tasty and I wasn't crazy about the frosting either - too sugary sweet!
My favorite cupcakes are from Sprinkles!

I love Magnolia cupcakes and hate Crumbs. I find Crumbs so dense and the icing never tastes that good. I am however a strict vanilla cake with choc. icing kind of girl.
My absolute favorite though is Sprinkles in LA...they are amazing!!!

I liked Magnolia's a lot. It's the new breakfast in the city spot lol
Crumbs was good but the cake part tasted a little burned. Very hare to eat but great frosting.
