Toddler going to a pool w/ grandparents
I'm taking the pulse of this community to see if my feelings and concerns are echoed here or if I need to try and relax. Would you let your 2 year old go to a life guarded pool (teen lifeguards, if that matters) with just the grandparents? Said 2 year old cannot swim at all, even in the puddle jumper can't really keep himself upright or face above water without adult help.
DH and I both work full time and grandparent(s) are talking about taking our child early from daycare this summer to regularly go swimming at a pool they belong to. My gut reaction upon hearing this idea was noooo way. there are usually a good amount of kids at the pool and 1-2 lifeguards on duty but I just don't feel totally comfortable sending a non swimmer to a pool without me or DH present. I have hesitations about the grandparents being able to keep up if 2 year old were to take off running or even handle him in the pool for a whole afternoon. I think for a first time mom I'm relatively relaxed and not too anxious and over protective, but I'm feeling really over protective with this pool stuff. Am I being crazy? What would you do?

My answer would be no. I pretty much will not trust anyone with my kids in a pool or beach since my kids do not swim.

I guess it depends on your parents. Are they active, healthy swimmers? Do they take good care of your child (eyes on him at all times?) If yes, then I'd probably be OK with it. You know best though, so trust your gut.

They can swim, but I wouldn't describe them as active and healthy. They do ok for themselves but physically seem older than some of their friends around the same age. For example, I think it's difficult for them to do simple things like lift him or carry him up and down stairs.

Yes, absolutely. My parents are in their early 60's and are extremely active. I trust them completely. Only you can answer this question because only you know how active, trustworthy and attentive your parents are.

Wouldn't cross my mind to worry about that one bit, but my parents are very active and physically able to keep up.

If that's the case I'd say no way
Maybe go with them on a weekend and see the setup/ if they have a shallow kiddie pool or whatever

Re: Toddler going to a pool w/ grandparents
I would and I do allow this. But my parents are young and active and I completely 100% trust them both - together and alone.
That being said - if YOU are not comfortable, then don't do it.

Re: Toddler going to a pool w/ grandparents
Depends on the grandparents. You need to be literally on top of the toddler the entire time. I can't do toddler & older child solo (I could only go solo when my younger turned 3).

Yes, I would trust either set of grandparents to bring my kids to the pool. But I know my parents and my in laws and I know that they would be on top of them just as much as I would. So it really depends on the grandparent.

I would have no problem with it but I have zero concerns about the grandparents' abilities to watch my kids.

Re: Toddler going to a pool w/ grandparents
HELL NO. I don't trust ANY grandparents (or anyone for that matter) with my child at the pool. Most grandparents are too slow IMO for most young children (at least our parents for sure). NO NO NO

Toddler going to a pool w/ grandparents
My parents took my two year old swimming last year. They always went together. One was in the pool and one was out. My daughter did ok with a Puddle Jumper. However, I think it's all about gauging your parents reaction time. My parents are good so I was ok with it.

Yes. I would. But I grew up at the pool from 6months on, we have a pool, ds is very comfortable in the water and is getting swim lessons soon and will continue to. That's one of the things I would know my mother would be setting up for him at the pool. We are a swimming family though. Pool and beach bums.
