Re: The un-official Couch to 5K thread

Ahhhhhh, I haven't gone running since my last post on 6/30. I'm going tonight. My last workout of week 3 and then onto week 4. I'll update after I run.

You guys are doing great, keep it up!!

I ran my second 5k race yesterday at Hidden Pond Park in Hauppague. It was my best time so far, 28:40! It was a little tough with a few hills, but the park was really nice and it was mostly in the shade. I started week 7 of the OHR and hope to do a 5 mile race on Labor Day Chat Icon

Running my second 5k race this sunday, and I'm on week 6 of the One Hour Runner program. I'm totally addicted now! Chat Icon

Are you using any podcasts for OHR? If so which one?

no i've never used any of the podcasts. what exactly are they?

Well, for C25K, I used Ullrey's and DJSteveboy. What are you doing for music for OHR? This is my thing about doing it. I love the ability to zone out and run to a beat.

I just run to my own playlist that i created. It's mostly remixed upbeat songs. Can you download these podcasts from itunes? Eventually I would like to work on improving my pacing, so a steady beat would be good.

The DJSteve boy ones are *from what I've heard* on itunes, but the ullreys are not.

I agree with the pacing thing.

Re: The un-official Couch to 5K thread

Did workout 2 of week 4. It's amazing. I actually feel like a runner now when I do the 5 minute intervals. I made my pace more consistent this time and really only slowed down during the last 5 min interval. Yesterday I slowed down a lot for the entire second set of 3 and 5 minute intervals. So that's an improvement! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

ETA: oops, week 4 not 3!

Day 1 of week 5

Tomorrow I'm doing day 2, which is 8 minutes straight. I'm going to repeat this one twice before moving onto the 20 minute run. But I feel like I'm gaining endurance! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

That is so amazing!! Congrats! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Tell me, were you a runner at some point before, or was this your first time? When you first started out, did you find it difficult? I did, and I am just wondering if someone who finished the program successfully also found the beginning hard.

Re: The un-official Couch to 5K thread

Yes I was a runnerback in high school, I was more of a swimmer but i was also on the track team. Iwas a distance swimmer & runner, never did sprints.

But that being said I have not run since then & I have gained ALOT over weight over the years. I started the couch to 5k the end of may & ended up not running for 2 weeks the end of june due having issues finding time. But I got back on track after 4th of july.

Any way I did have to a little bit of ahard time in the beginning but it wasnt unbearable. but I do feel that it get easier as the weeks go on. Running the 30 minutes is no problem at all now.....my pace is still kind of sow but that has more to do with my weight than anything else. I also joined weight watchers sothe pounds are starting to come offChat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I definately think that as I lose weight my pace will jsut naturally get faster. At least that is what I hope happens.

Hope that Helps!

YAYYYY! CONGRATS!!

just so you know, the One Hour Runner program starts off with three weeks of running 30 minutes, 3 days a week. It was designed to follow the Couch 2 5k. So you can technically start week 1 now!! Congrats again!

Thanks! That does. I'm currently running 5 consecutive minutes and that isn't horrible, but I'm going to do the 8 minutes today and we'll see how that goes. I'm definitely tired at the end.

I'm just going to jump aboard this thread. I think I've pretty much read the whole thing. Congratulations to those who have finished and good luck to those still working! I'm hoping to finish the program in time for the Tunnel to Towers 5K in Sept...which I'm doing come hell or high water!

I began Week 3 this morning. I've gotta say, it wasn't as bad as I anticipated...the 2nd 3 minute run was tough since I was going up a pretty steep hill. Looking forward, Week 4 looks killer!
