Week 6, mix 3 is DONE! I ran the whole 25 minutes nonstop and my pace wasn't horrible. But I definitely had to slow down at parts. I was exhausted at the end and now my legs are still tired, even 30 minutes later.

Fantastic!!! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

As for me, after week 5 I abandoned Robert. If I heard one more note of techno I was going to run right into traffic. Chat Icon

I've been "freestyling" since then and am currently up to 20 minutes...which is 1.8 miles for me. Unfortunately, I am running my first 5K in only a week and I am worried I won't be prepared. I was really hoping to run the whole way. We'll see...

Good luck on your race!! You can probably add a few more minutes to you running this week in preparation. Honestly, I find that when I do stop to walk for a bit, my overall running is faster. So it may help your overall time.

Hope your race went well!
I abandoned Robert awhile ago- I just couldn't take it when the workouts were different every day of the week.
I start week 9 tomorrow morning. I can't believe it. I am thinking about doing a 5K in October. I want some time to keep increasing my mileage. I'm not running 3 miles yet.

Week 7 workout 1 is DONE!! I was out of commission all last week because I totally overdid it at a full body muscle class I took at the gym. It's the first time since the spring that I've done one of these classes, since I didn't have a gym membership over the summer.

So now I'm back! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon And I will take it easy tomorrow at the muscle class so I can run again on Wed and Fri to finish week 7.

Great job Beth!!! You are doing awesome!

DonnaJoe-Welcome and GOOD LUCK!!! Remember this...slow and steady wins the race. Don't feel the need to run fast, don't think you have to finish it in 9 weeks and make sure to listen to your body. Chat Icon

Good luck! Remember, it totally gets easier as time goes on. I couldn't imagine running 5 full minutes, and now I can do 25. You'll do great!!

Week 7 workout 2 is done! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I've realized that I've learned to recover when I run downhill, instead of needing to stop and walk. Today I ran the first 1/3 of my run way too fast, and after a while I felt TERRIBLE. But I didn't stop. I just used the downhill portions to recover and when it got really bad I just slowed down to a jog. I never could do that before. I would have to stop and walk. So I'm really proud of myself!

Good job! It definitely gets easier. I finished the week 9 last Saturday and then got a cold on Sunday Chat Icon so I haven't run all week. I am going to try to go on Saturday.
I can run 30 mins but not 3 miles so I think I am going to keep trying to increase my time in small increments. I'm also thinking about signing up for a 5K.

Just thought I would update here although I sort of gave up on the C25K around week 6 and did my own thing.

I ran my first 5K last Sunday--the Tunnel to Towers--in the pouring rain! I'll admit, I didn't run the entire thing, but I did run at least the first two miles and then the last mile I ended up running/walking/running etc.--but in the end I wound up running more in one session than I ever have in my life!

It was sort of hard to get out of bed to run after this, but back on the horse I am! There is another local 5K on 10/25 and if I can't run the entire thing, hopefully I'll at least beat my time. Going to try my best to run the whole thing though!!!

Great job Erin!!! Getting out there is the hardest part and all it takes is the slightest motivation to get back into it. I can't wait to hear about the 5K. Chat Icon

Congrats! It doesn't matter if you walk a little. Just focus on beating your time. Some people do better overall when they walk a little.

Re: The un-official Couch to 5K thread

Still on week 7-- taking it slow, lol. But DH and I did a timed 2 mile run this morning and I did it in 22 minutes 42 seconds. So I have a 11 min 21 sec mile, which is much better than my 12 min 10 sec mile from last time!! It feels so good to improve. I just wanted to be under 24 mins, so I was very happy to hear my time from DH (who timed both our runs and did his in 18 mins 53 sec).

Week 8 workout 1 done! I *think* I ran 28 minutes...ipod died again. Time to get a nano. I'll do that today or tomorrow so I have it for my Wed run.

Yay! You're almost done! I found once I was running 25 mins it was easier to add time each week. Hope it's the same for you!

I finished a few weeks ago and am still running. I've been running about 3 miles 3 times per week and I'm running my first 5k this weekend!

Thank you!! I just did week 8 workout 2 this morning. I got my new ipod nano yesterday, so I now I know that when I estimated 28 minutes on Monday, I was pretty accurate. I'm excited to make some music mixes after I finish couch to 5k and just try to improve my time and maybe try to increase endurance.

So if I'm doing it on my own, should I try to increase my distance by 1/4 mile a week? Is that reasonable?

Good job!! I feel the same way. After 25 mins, it's not too hard. There is a point on my run where after I turn on a certain street, I feel like I am in the home stretch, no matter how much time I add on each week.

Week 8 done! One more week to go! I have been going really slowly compared to all of you, but I can't believe I stuck with it this long and I can run 28 minutes! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon And even after the music stopped I ran a bit more to get to the end of a street, just to do a little extra. I was quite proud of myself and I know the 30 minutes won't be bad since it's just a little more running.

I just wanted to congratulations to everyone! I aslo did the c25k and it worked great for me. I actually did a 5K in Massapequa on October 25th and did it 31 min 45 sec. I remember when i started this program i could not even run for 5 mins straight and now I can run over an hour without stopping! Keep up the amazing work everyone!

Week 9 workout 1 DONE! I can now run 30 full minutes! Chat Icon Chat Icon 2 more runs and I've finished the program. I'm so proud of myself. I couldn't run 3 minutes when I started.

My next goal is to keep running the 30 minutes and get my speed up. And to run more consistently. As you can see, it took me nearly 6 months to do the program since I ran only 1-2 times a week. I want to get up to a solid 3 times a week.

For anyone debating getting Under Armour cold gear...it's awesome! Granted it was not super cold today, but it kept the chill out and I did not get overheated at all. And when it gets colder you can layer with long sleeves underneath and gloves and you should be perfect!

Congrats to you. Dosen't it feel great to be able to run 30 minutes straight? The most important part is that you stuck with the program and didn't give up!
