Re: The un-official Couch to 5K thread
It's amazing how hard it is to get back after a break, no matter how small. Kudos for getting back on track!!!

Re: The un-official Couch to 5K thread
I haven't run in 2 weeks! I'm definitely running on Wednesday. I'll have to start over the first day of week 5 to get my endurance back up.

We are on the same schedule!
I began week 5 today and I've gotta say...I ROCKED! I'm thinking about redoing workout 1 on Friday before moving on to 2, but we'll see. I may take the plunge...

Damn you are fast! Didn't you just start? I've been doing this since June, but the first half of the summer I could only run 2 days a week so I took twice as long to do each week.

Re: The un-official Couch to 5K thread
woohoo!! Week 5 workout 2. I can run for 8 minutes!! I think the next time I run, DH and I are just going to run 1 mile and test our times. I bet I have a 10 min mile, so it will still be a step up from running 8 minutes. But it won't be as bad as the full 20 mins.

Re: The un-official Couch to 5K thread
I'm doing Week 5 workout 2 tomorrow!!
I did two sessions of workout 1--and I absolutely DIE at the second 5 minute interval. I realized that since I take the same route pretty much every time, that that interval happens to be uphill. What a killer--it took me a good two blocks of walking to recover! But then the last five minutes was fine.
Soooo...I'm planning on altering the route so that hopefully the 8 minute interval will be flat/downhill mostly.

Re: The un-official Couch to 5K thread
I am right around you guys. I finished week 5 last Friday and the 20 minute run was a killer. I did it in the middle of the day and it was so hot out! I was really sore over the weekend so I am repeating week 5 this week. Today I did day 1 of week 5.

Re: The un-official Couch to 5K thread
I repeated week 5 workout 2 yesterday and plan to do the 20 min run tonight. But I was looking back at the schedule, and doesn't it seem that workouts 1 and 2 in week 6 seem easier than the workout 3 of week 5? Why is that?

Yeah, the other 2 workouts are easier but I think the 3rd one is to show you that you CAN do it but you aren't ready to OVERdo it.

I thought the same thing. I guess it's like MissJones said- so we know we can do it.
I finished week 5 for the 2nd time yesterday. The 20 minute run was so much better the 2nd time. I'm glad I listened to my body and redid week 5. Onto week 6 on Monday!

Re: The un-official Couch to 5K thread
I finished week 5, workout 3. That 20 minutes was hard. But onto week 6 tomorrow! I ran in the morning, and will do this tomorrow. It's so much nicer than running after work.

Re: The un-official Couch to 5K thread
I'm also starting week 6 tomorrow! I pretty much washed out on the 20 minute run...I did about 13 minutes; walked for 2 and ran for another 5. But I did workouts 1 and 2 twice, so I'm going to forge ahead with week 6, which--as discussed--looks easier than workout 3 of week 5...hopefully.

The only reason I was able to get through the full 20 mins was because I went sooooo slowly. It was seriously like a crawl. I think people walk faster than I jogged

Re: The un-official Couch to 5K thread
Did week 6, workout 1 this morning. I definitely picked up my pace from yesterday, and I felt like I got a better workout today.
And I measured my calves since I thought my legs looked thinner and I *think* I lost 1/2 an inch. I have to check back to where I measured my calves before running.

Re: The un-official Couch to 5K thread
You guys are doing great! I did Week 6 workout 2 this morning and it was not bad. I was at the gym on the treadmill and I've been finding that's easier than running outside. I've been trying to run outside at least 1 workout per week. Anyone else find this?

I ran the 5 mile race in Long Beach today and it was great! I finished in 46:50, my best time so far. The weather was perfect, I'm so happy the hot hot weather is over!

Congrats! That's awesome!
I'm still going... did week 7 workout 1 today and it's definitely getting easier to run for the 25 minutes.

Re: The un-official Couch to 5K thread
I did week 6, mix 2 this morning and it was hard. But probably didn't help that I took a week off last week from running. But I plan to do mix 3 on Wednesday.

Re: The un-official Couch to 5K thread
Week 6, mix 3 is DONE! I ran the whole 25 minutes nonstop and my pace wasn't horrible. But I definitely had to slow down at parts. I was exhausted at the end and now my legs are still tired, even 30 minutes later.

Fantastic!!!
As for me, after week 5 I abandoned Robert. If I heard one more note of techno I was going to run right into traffic.
I've been "freestyling" since then and am currently up to 20 minutes...which is 1.8 miles for me. Unfortunately, I am running my first 5K in only a week and I am worried I won't be prepared. I was really hoping to run the whole way. We'll see...
