The Topic to End all Spinoffs

OFFICIAL RULING FROM THE NYS DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH:

Dogs or any pets for that matter are NOT allowed in ANY food establishment. Period, END OF STORY.

I'm working on getting the link to the actual code itself.

Yes, I felt the need to give this it's own thread.

Maybe now, people who feel the need to bring their "doggies" into a supermarket will not.

If you DO bring YOUR doggie into ANY food establishment, you ARE breaking the LAW.

Have a nice day! Chat Icon

ETA: Thank you to Shawn and Barbara for posting the links I was looking for. I got distracted with work (go figure?!) and I never got a chance to post them!

Thank you both!! Chat Icon

ETA: HERE IT IS...

Source

Except as specified in (a) and (b) below, live animals shall not be allowed on the premises of a food establishment.
a. Live animals may be allowed in the following situations if the contamination of food; clean equipment, utensils, and linens; and unwrapped single-service and single-use articles cannot result:
(1) Edible fish or decorative fish in aquariums, shellfish or crustacea on ice or under refrigeration, and shellfish and crustacea in display tank systems;
(2) Patrol dogs accompanying police or security officers in offices and dining, sales, and storage areas, and sentry dogs in outside fenced areas;
(3) In areas that are not used for food preparation and that are usually open for customers, such as dining and sales areas, service animals that are controlled by the disabled employee or person, if a safety hazard will not result from the presence or activities of the service animal;
(4) In areas that are not used for food preparation, storage, sales, display, or dining, in which there are caged animals or animals that are similarly restricted, such as in a variety store that sells pets or a tourist park that displays animals.
72
b. Live or dead fish bait may be stored if contamination of food; clean equipment, utensils, and linens; and unwrapped single-service and single-use articles cannot result.

This is verbatim from the FDA rules.

I quite agree, but apparently common sense is a thing of the past.

Re: The Topic to End all Spinoffs

you know what? that official info probably will NOT stop the posters who say they bring their dogs into stores with them at all---something tells me they will say "well thats great but i don't see it as a problem because MY DOG is very clean and will not touch a cart cause i hold them in my arm/carrier/bag"

By WHY should there even HAVE to BE a sign? KWIM?

I have a dog, I LOVE him with ALL my heart, but the ONLY store he goes in is Petco. Period, end of story.

Because people in society do whatever they want. Over the past decade or so, common sense went completely out the window and unless something is expressly forbidden, people will do it. This is not just about bringing dogs into supermarkets - it's an across the board observation.

We were discussing this the other day. It is like there is an overwhelming sense of individual entitlement that really has no place. It has truly become a Me world.Chat Icon

I find it amusing that those who were SO in favor of bringing their doggies into supermarkets and such are not here to respond.

Interesting.

Jenn - when I said this yesterday one person responded that it doesn't matter because SUFFOLK says that they are allowed in. Am I right that state law trumps county law?
