The Americana in Manhasset
I went shopping at the Americana today. I love it there. I could not stop buying shoes, make-up, shoes, etc..... I did not feel like going to the malls. The atmosphere and people are totally different, then in malls. I had so much fun and oddly enough it was sooo relaxing!!!!! So for those who want to rest, relax or just get away, I recommend the Americana. Enjoy!!!!

Next time you go, grab a wrap and a frappe from Cippolini Express (right around from Cippolini). You will be in heaven!

I love outdoor shoppings area. May I also suggest Woodbury Commons on Jericho Tpke.
I go to Americana a few times a year and get dressed up to do it It seems to call for that more than say Roosevelt Field. Whenever I walk around Americana I just think of that Fitzgerald line "the rich are different"
BTW, That Tiffany & Co is insane on weekends!

I like it to when I lived in Great Neck, however I would like it more if I could afford something there in a store other than the GAP!!

Re: The Americana in Manhasset
A was talking to someone who owns a business in Woodbury Commons and she said that one of her employees was picking up breakfast/lunch at the deli and someone on line said to her:
"If you want to shop in Woodbury, you'll have to do better than last year's purse"
Can you believe that?!! Now I'm totally self conscious of shopping at either of those places!

Me neither. Too expensive for me. I don't like feeling like I have to get dressed up to go shopping. All I can afford over there is Gap.

If someone dared say that to me I would have smacked them in the face with last year's purse! Selfish, snobby, shallow people. Grow the F up and get a life! Maybe one day people like that will learn what is REALLY important in life. Disgusting!!
I wonder what they would think of my purse from Target!

LOVE that place - But I see no reason to 'get dressed up' to go shopping ther - My money is green and my credit cards are plastic .......just like the woman dressed in head to to Chanel .....- I could care less, and the people WORKING there, are WORKING there - I'm the one BUYING !!! I'll show up in my PJs if I feel like it (well, I would never, but you KWIM)

So the people that Work there are lower class then you? That's kinda how it sounds.
I don't think the problem is with people that work there but the way shoppers might look at you if you went in in Pjs
PS I went to crate and barrel in a pair of jean capris and a shirt I don't care

Re: The Americana in Manhasset
Now that i recall, when i went to VS there a while ago i was wearing cargo pants and a t-shirt and an employee says to me "You look very comfortable in your pajamas today." I thought it was a weird comment but shrugged it off, i guess it was meant to be a hint or something......

Re: The Americana in Manhasset
I never feel the need to alter what I wear when I go there. I just go as myself and I have never been made to feel uncomfortable. Actually when we had that huge blackout years ago, I was in Crate and Barrel. I was stranded there b/c my car ran out of gas and the gas stations weren't working and I didn't live locally. The employees at Escada let my no frills self hang out in the store for hours just to escape the heat and use the restroom. I didn't feel judged at all, they were very nice to me even though I have never stepped foot in that store before and certainly didn't "look" like I would shop there.
That purse story is ridiculous but I wouldn't let it bother me anyway if someone said that to me. Just b/c you dress high end doesn't mean you have $. So it doesn't intimidate me at all. I may very well have way more $ than some of the people that shop or work there. Bottom line is, you can't go by what people wear, or carry or drive, to know how much they have.....sometimes it's all a facade. They could be extremely broke to live that lifestyle. I am sure many are not broke, but I am sure some definitely put on a facade that they have more than they actually do....JMO
carry on...

I thought all the same things when I read this! I love my Target purse but get laughs from my "designer" friends!

i feel out of place at the americana--like everyone is gonna be looking at me and wondering if i should be mowing their lawn instead of shopping in the same store with them.

Re: The Americana in Manhasset
My friend works at London Jewelers and I was waiting for her the other day, and I felt so uncomfortable just hanging out there. It is probably just all in my mind, but I felt so out of place, like I didn't belong there. No one was rude to me or anything, but it was just how I felt.
As far as the purse/Woodbury Common story, that's ridiculous! All kinds of people shop there, and who the F cares what bag you're carrying. If that's the most important thing in that woman's life, I feel terribly sorry for her.

same here! so pretty!
i can't really afford much of anything - once in a blue moon i'll splurge on a piece of silver jewelry from tiffany's but that's about it. it is just fun to look, see the beautiful clothes, bags, jewels and walk around - especially on pretty days. the last time i was there i bought an engagement party gift at tiffany's. i looked at all the stuff in all the cases - so beautiful and i got my ring cleaned!
