Spinoffs to designer labels
would u make fun of someone that didn't wear designer labels. my sister got teased greatly in the first grade. we're not ashamed to admot it...we got clothes from my aunt. the kids in school called the clothes from the 60's. they tease her about not having a named brand on her a$$. my dad says if u want a name on your a$$, i'll write our name on y our a$$

well calling them names back solves everything!
honestly, i think there is a happy medium. i would never send my kids to school in clothes from 2 decades ago. i would buy from target or walmart, but i wouldn't subject kids to taunting that may come from clothes obviously from 20 years ago.

Re: Spinoffs to designer labels
This is different, we're talking about 7 year old's here... they don't know any better (however, they are learning from their parents, which kind of contradicts what I was going to say... ).
Anyway, no I don't judge people who are wearing sunglasses they got at H&M vs. someone who is sporting some Dior's. Maybe they like the one's from H&M better... I'm not a mind reader.... I can't judge anyway, I buy my clothes from EVERYWHERE... target, H&M, Banana, Bloomies....

Kids can be mean and will make fun of other kids that are somehow different then the majority. It's not right but it's been happening for forever.

Re: Spinoffs to designer labels
No way....I don't think the label inside your clothes make you the person you are! I know people that truly can afford the designer clothes & choose not to wear them..This does not make them less of a person!

Agreed......... It's common but theres no need to dwell on it. I also agree that letting your kids wear clothes that were 'outdated'doesn't have to be the case either. Walmart and Target are affordable for people who can't afford pricier clothing.

Re: Spinoffs to designer labels
I never made fun of anyone! (Unless they were picking on my little sister, then they took a beating...and those were usually boys.) I was teased quite a bit in school, so I know how it feels. Designer brands were the furthest thing from my mind when I was young.
And I'm probably a freak because I couldn't wait to get hand-me-downs from my cousins who were 4 and 8 years older than me. I thought they had the coolest clothes.
I didn't care who made my clothes...as long as they didn't make me itch. (I hate scratchy clothes. )

Re: Spinoffs to designer labels
Made fun of in FIRST grade for not wearing designer labels??? that's crazy! GOD, it makes me so mad to hear about other kids teasing... I HOPE that I will teach my son right and he won't be a teaser... it breaks my heart!
I didn't care much about designer anything until I got to HS... it seemed to matter more there.

I have been called a jap since I was about 6- and I am catholic

ITA... except, I am not catholic
I never considered myself a jap, but some people feel the need to classify others. There was a time, probably when I was 12 when I enjoyed being jappy- because that was when I remember labels being really big. But before or after that-- not as much.
But I luuuurrrvvv my clothes from Target!! It's probably one of my favorite places to shop-- it's so fun to find cute stuff for so cheap!
Is it wrong to judge a book by its cover- YES. Will people continue to do it- ABSOLUTELY. We are a society that has the "Keeping up with the Jones'" mentality. Whether we outwardly judge, or just have a mere split second thought to ourselves-- we all do it to an extent.
ETA-- and kids are cruel, and self-conscious. So if they can deflect their insecurities to someone else, they will. It's not right-- but they do it. Parents need to be responsible and teach their kids right from wrong, and also not put their kids in situations where they will become a target.

Re: Spinoffs to designer labels
its sad to hear that your sister was made fun of, if you look at designer labels they are all made in china anyway. Its all junk and it all falls apart. Nothing is made well anymore and its sad the designers charge 400 dollars for something that cost them 2 cents to make in a sweatshop

Re: Spinoffs to designer labels
I seriously think that all kids should wear uniforms to school. I think it would take so much of the empasis off the materialism.
I went from a very label concious grammer and middle school to a high school that required uniforms. I thought that I would hate having to wear a uniform, but i loved it!! I still think all schools should require them. It kind of evens out the playing field for all of the kids.

,,,do it too...to each other
all of these threads you are reading about designer this and who has that...and people calling out other people for "bragging" about their cars/clothes/bags...they are all doing the same thing.
whether they'd cop to it or not is one thing...but what kids do is just more honest. they are open about it.
it's human nature.
can I be a mean, vindictive, jealous beyoutch. yes I can....I try not to be, b/c I know it's not nice, but in the end, it's an instinct to feel a little something...
tonight I am totally going to jack ChrissynRicky's hottt bag once I get her drunk off of sangria...shhhh, don't tell
