And I'm probably a freak because I couldn't wait to get hand-me-downs from my cousins who were 4 and 8 years older than me. I thought they had the coolest clothes. 
Me too! I loved getting my 5 year older cousin's clothes for 2 reasons:
1) because I wanted to be just like her
and
2) because I got a WHOLE bag of clothes to go through, it was like my own sample sale! (not that I knew what that was back then)
I normally only go new clothes, for Christmas, my birthday & the beginning of school.
I did draw the line at plaid pants in kindergarten though.
MY mom tried, " but Regina wore them. . ." ( I was usually a sucker for that) but I was smarter thant that & said,
" Yeah- 5 years ago!- Nobody wears plaid pants to school, now".
I think they were bellbottoms too!

No..and in first grade? That's ridiculous.
Honestly I didn't even encounter any brand name stuff until COLLEGE. Even in HS it was very few things, like The North Face and JNCO's were very big, but you didn't have to have them. It wasn't until college that everything became about the designer. I definitely felt like a fish out of water there

that's silly, I would never make fun of anyone that had less than me.
I know how it is being teased for not having as much money as the other girls in school.
