Spinoff - Plastic Surgery:
How many of you have had something done? Are you willing to share what you had done and why?
For those who have not - have you ever thought about it? How do you feel about cosmetic surgery in general? I'm curious to see how "mainstream" it is and how many people have had something done and why.
Anyone planning on having anything done in the near future??

Never had it. More than likely never will. I'm too scared. I just can't see myself having unnecessary surgery.
ETA: I have nothing against it. If you want it, have it

I've never had any, and right now cannot see myself ever electing to have plastic surgery. I will not go under the knife voluntarily. However, I am also secure with my appearance (aside from wanting to lose a few pounds), so it's just not something I have ever considered. It really is a personal decision for everyone, but in general, I am not a fan of the idea of plastic surgery.

Re: Spinoff - Plastic Surgery:
I would do it if something happens to me
for ex: If I have children and my stomach and havehanging skin after I lose weight by dieting and exercise. That show ugly swan there were some people on there who had problems with their tummys after childbirth.
But that would be the only way. I like myself right now and I am happy

Re: Spinoff - Plastic Surgery:
I know quite a few people that have had some type of procedure. I stongly believe that if used responsibly it can a fantastic tool to help someone get to a more comfortable place with themselves.....if that makes sense.
I would consider having liposuction in the future.

Re: Spinoff - Plastic Surgery:
I will probably have abdominoplasty someday. I will only do it after I have lost some weight and maintained the loss for a while. I would not borrow money to do it. I would probably be too afraid to have any facial plastic surgery.

Re: Spinoff - Plastic Surgery:
I have that skin around my abdomen that looks like a woman after shes had a baby except I have no baby. I had a major weight loss that left me with a flap that looks like an apron. DH met and fell in love with me this way and has never once complained about it. You'd think it would be enough. Its not.
Imagine feeling like a work in progress for 5 years and I swear to you all that no amount of exercise will tighten up that skin. You just cannot tighten up skin that used to be filled up by over 100 extra pounds for most of your adult life. Nobody can tell the difference when I am in clothes. That skin is keeping a formerly sized 24 in a size 10 when she could very well be a size 8. It matters and I am not shallow for thinking that way. And yes, I DO exercise. The muscles underneatth the skin are tight - the skin is loose. I only thank G-d that my arms don't look like bat wings but come hell or high water, I will have breast augmentation and abdominoplasty after I have children. DH is in support of it
FACT- I am a hell of a lot more attractive now than I was then and people can tell me I am beautiful til they are blue in the face - they did when I VOLUNTARILY went under the knife to have weight loss surgery (WHICH IS NOT PLASTIC SURGERY - people often say it is). But unless a person feels and sees their beauty themselves, all of the compliments in the world do not amount to much. There is still work left to be done.

Re: Spinoff - Plastic Surgery:
I haven't had any work done. However, I've seriously considered rhinoplasty and breast augmentation, in that order. I HATE my nose. I think it's too big and every time I see it in pictures, I cringe. However, right now I am too scared to do anything. As for breast implants, as much as I want them, again, I am scared.

Re: Spinoff - Plastic Surgery:
Thanks. If people dont want to get surgery thats fine. But it really irks me when people feel obligated to compliment someone who is looking to improve themselves in efforts to keep them from going under the knife. Its not like a 15 year old child asking for a boob job or a nose job. I am talking about adults making adult decisions. There is a difference between having one or two procedures to lift your self-confidence and becoming obsessed with surgery to the point where you become unrecognizable. I'd like to think I have the intelligence to know the difference.

Re: Spinoff - Plastic Surgery:
I haven't had anything done. I would like smaller breasts, but first I'm going to lose all the weight that I should lose (about 30 lbs) and see what size they are. They grew as I gained weight, so it stands to reason that I will lose weight in my chest too. But if that doesn't work, then I'd like a breast reduction and lift, possibly after I'm done having kids (don't have any yet).

Re: Spinoff - Plastic Surgery:
I didn't hate my nose, but I had a nose job. Had a deviated septum that made it really hard to breathe and had a bump that I disliked (but it did not really take away from my appearence IMO, just hated my profile). It also hurt sometimes from the twist in the septum. Drs did not touch the tip or anything but remove the bump, however, they still had to break the nose. People never even realized I had it done b/c I pretty much looked exactly the same from the front view (just straight profile view afterwards).
I would do it again in a heartbeat, as long as I do my research and find a dr that is competent who I trust.
If in the future if I have a child and need work in the stomach area, I would do it for sure if I find an excellent dr.
I really think it takes a lot of thought, should not be something you do on a whim. I debated for over 4 years, talked to many people who had it done, and got 4 consults before deciding.

Had my nose done at 15
I was too young and pushed into doing it, so I didn't give much input
I wish I could do it over or do it again as it doesn't look much different
ETA- I'd like to do it again but my DH is against it. He's nervous about any kind of surgery

Re: Spinoff - Plastic Surgery:
I'm not ashamed or embarrassed to say that I have had something done. I had a BA almost 2 years ago. It's something I was thinking about and wanting for about 10 years. I researched and researched until I knew everything there was to know about having it done and the complications that can come along with it and found the right doctor for me. It wasn't that I was very self conscience about the way I looked...just wanted a little improvement in that area. I have no regrets!!

same here. i don't regret my decision at all. most people don't even notice the difference, but i do and feel SO much more confident now. after i'm done having children, i would consider another procedure depending on how my body holds up.

Re: Spinoff - Plastic Surgery:
I would never be able to have elective surgery. One of my grandmothers slipped into a coma on the OR table and was never the same, and I lost the other during surgery. Both problems were due to the same error made by their anesthesiologist. Two different hospitals in 2 different states. So now I'm too scared to do it.

Re: Spinoff - Plastic Surgery:
Never have...may in the future.
I broke my nose when I was a kid and it is slightly crooked plus i have a slightly deviated septum so I often get headaches.
I'm kind of a chicken though...not sure if I'll ever have the guts for that one thanks to seeing them done on Nip/Tuck (I know its not real- but its realistic enough to scare the craap outta me!)
I wouldn't be opposed to a breast lift after I have children.

I agree--I would never go under the knife voluntarily. I'm very secure...There are things I'd like to change, but it wouldn't be worth the chance of complications to me.

I would get Rhinoplasty because of a huge bump! If my mom did not have breast cancer...I would have definitely considered breast augmentation.
