Spin off to "Question for those who Sold their House"
Did you know where the sellers were moving too?
Do you still see the sellers?

We bought in 2006 and found out at the closing that our Sellers moved less than a mile away. I havent seen them though in the 3 years I have lived here.

Re: Spin off to "Question for those who Sold their House"
The sellers told us they were only moving because they needed a larger house for the MIL. But that they still wanted to live in St. James.
About a month ago, DH was walking our dog when he sees the sellers. Three blocks away! They chat for a while. The house they bought is 2x the size of ours and cost about 200k more than ours sold for. They made out pretty well!
I saw her MIL one day but I haven't seen them yet. It's really tempting to somehow get on the subject of the things that they had to know were a problem when they sold to us. I probably won't. Our immediate neighbors are so much more friendly to us than them, and everyone has commented on how much better the house looks now than before. That's my revenge.

Re: Spin off to "Question for those who Sold their House"
Ug.. unfortunately our sellers moved 2 blocks away from us and we see them all the time. They were going into foreclosure because they could not afford the house and moving in with a relative. So they were not happy to be leaving.
We see them driving by the house still, they walk their dogs by and if we're outside they comment on how nice the house looks etc.
I personally HATE that they are so close by because they were absolutely looney people.. the things they did in that house.. i'm so afraid they're going to ask to see inside one day! I wouldnt put it past them to have looked in the windows while we're at work during the day.

Our sellers moved about an hour away to be closer to work. We haven't seen them since - I think it would be awkward to run into them!

Yes, he is still in the same town, but on the other side of it, so hopefully we won't run into each other.

Say away from them... They can be your worse nightmare... My neighbor sold her house and made the mistake giving them her phone number if anything came up Call Me and boy did they... One day they called her 18 times...

Re: Spin off to "Question for those who Sold their House"
Our house was a foreclosure, so it was bank-owned.
The previous owner, however, moved in with his mother across the street and over 2 houses. We very rarely saw him but it was AWKWARD!! He finally moved somewhere else after we'd been living here about a year.

Re: Spin off to "Question for those who Sold their House"
The people we bought from were the adult children of the owners. Their father had passed away and their mother was ill. We had contact with them a few times during the selling process about buying furniture from the house. We also saw them at closing.

Re: Spin off to "Question for those who Sold their House"
Our sellers were going through a nasty divorce. We actually only met the wife, the husband had his attorney do everything for him. They stayed in the same town (the wife) because her children were still in school, but they moved into an apartment. I have seen their daughter drive by a few times and once even coming up our driveway but then she chickened out of ringing our bell. We found some pretty nasty things in our house (the son had put used condoms in the wall , thank goodness we took that wall down) and when we were talking to our new neighbors they were all complaining about them and how happy they were to have us here. We didn't know that one of the girls talking to us was only 16 (I swear I thought she was like 24) turns out she was friends with one of the kids so I am sure the family found out about the condom story

Re: Spin off to "Question for those who Sold their House"
Our seller is moving to Georgia so I do not think I will run into her.
I did however promise to send her a pic of her hydrangeas. She changed the pH of the soil to change the color and she didnt know if it was going to work or not. When we went to closing they had not bloomed yet.
I told her when she gets settled in Georgia to mail us her address so I could mail her a pic.

Re: Spin off to "Question for those who Sold their House"
i can't answer this yet - but i do know that the sellers are trying to stay in the same town. so far we have not had any problems with them and they are nice people (any issues we have are with their attorneys). if all continues to go smoothly i would not mind running into them!

The sellers actually already live in Florida and have been living there full time for a while. They just put their house up in March and we should be closing next month.

That is nice!
The people we bought our house from moved to FL so we never see them. We are moving to NC, so our buyers won't ever see us!

Re: Spin off to "Question for those who Sold their House"
Our sellers moved a little further out on the island, but still spend time in our town. Its not inconcievable that we could run into them.
We actually became kind of friendly with them during the whole process...they were around our age and we seemed to really hit it off. DH wants to ask them to go to dinner or to hang out socially, but I am really hesitant.
As it turns out, I'm glad we never did, because we had a MAJOR, EXPENSIVE issue with the house two months after we closed, and I think it might have become awkward after that.

Re: Spin off to "Question for those who Sold their House"
Ours was an estate sale. The mom passed away. One of the daughters lives 3 houses down. We see her often and chat, she and her husband are very friendly and nice. It is helpful b/c DH has questions about the house sometimes and they know the history of the house. The neighbors around us are also friendly with one of the sons, we saw him at a barbeque last year(turns out he married one of DH's HS classmates).

Re: Spin off to "Question for those who Sold their House"
Our seller moved right around the corner because she moved in with her daughter. (she was an old lady.) I actually haven't seen them at all in the year we've lived here, but my neighbor said they still talk to her and she drives by all the time because she is happy to see how the house is thriving and how well we've maintained it She loved this house and lived here for over 50 years and sold it to us at such a great price because she just wanted a nice young family to live here and take care of it
ETA: When my parents sold our childhood home, the buyers kept telling them to come back and see the house. One day my parents took them up on the offer, and the buyers were so happy to have them come back. I just htought that was nice.

Re: Spin off to "Question for those who Sold their House"
I wish I had a happy 'we've become best friends' story, but we asked our seller to fix a few very minor things that came up in the inspection and they agreed. During the walk-through, one of things they were supposed to do wasn't done. When we pointed it out...THEY FLIPPED.
They moved OOS...but even if they return to visit old friends...they won't be stopping by to say hello...nor are they welcome.
They ruined my whole 'first home' buying experience.

we have very very similar stories. Their son put used condoms in the basement ceiling, left old beer cans there etc. some of the things the people did to the house were so bizarre we really wondered about them. I've seen them come by the house many times and i really really don't want them ever asking to see inside the house since they were so bitter to leave. made me nervous actually that they live so close by. wish we had a better situation.
