Do you get any "me" time? Meaning, no kids and no boss - just time to do something for yourself.

I rarely get time to me. I start at 5 am and don't end until 9pm, when the kids are in bed, on the days I work. I just don't know how to fit it in.

When I worked...no, not really. But I was a teacher and occasionally we would have half days for testing, etc. and I wouldn't tell anyone and just come home for a few hours. Then I'd arrive at the usual time at the home of whoever was watching DD still in work clothes and no one suspected a thing. Ah...those were the days!

I would give my right arm for a couple of hours alone at home.

I have every other friday off and I send DS to daycare to get stuff done--but it's never "me" time! It's how much cleaning, grocery shopping, etc., can I get done in that time. I actually took last Friday to do shopping for me and I was stressed the whole time because I knew there were 6 million other things that needed to get done.

I don't get a lot of me time. My me time is being on here at work while I ignore my boss. Chat Icon

Actually, that's not true. I'm in a book club so once a month I get me time - except last time DD was with me for the meeting. But even though I enjoy it, I still find myself getting antsy and watching the clock to see when I get to go home to DD again. I don't really need too much me time just yet.

Alone with no boss, no DH, no kids...3 hours on a train. Although it's not exactly alone, alone, it's my time.

Not really. Although to DH's credit he really helps out and takes Lucas so I can do things on my own on the weekend...even if errands at least I can get them done on my own.

But with the exception of manicure/pedicures...no other time alone.

Never! I never stop from morning until I go to bed just to do it all over again. I guess it caught up with me. I usually don’t catch what the kids have not this time.Chat Icon

Re: Spin off to Noreen's post about "me" time for working moms...

Well I count the 2-3 hours between when DS goes to bed and I got ot bed as ME time.

Also I take Pilates once or twice a week. ANd like Barb said my 2 hours on the tain areall for me, to read, sleep or listen to music.

So I get it here and there.

On nights that DH works, about 30 - 45 minutes after DD falls asleep. I make sure to pack up everything for daycare the next day - do light chores that need to be done and then I get that 30 minutes or so to just unwind, read a magazine or a few pages of a book

Sure. I go to dinner with a friend about once a month, and then see my other friends a couple times a month for breakfast on the weekends.

Sometimes I will go to Target all by myself to have some me time also.

DH plays in a softball league and surfs, so why can't I have my time too? We both need time to ourselves once in a while.

No I really dont. But its because I feel guilty leaving DS after working full time, or being in my classes at night. I WANT to be with him, but I can't wait for teh day that I work less, and I am done with school, and I can be with my son, AND be able to afford some time for myself.Chat Icon

Just a little side note...I don't really count the hour between putting the kids to bed and putting me to bed as "me" time. I mean prime time to do something for yourself or just being able to run errands alone.

Re: Spin off to Noreen's post about "me" time for working moms...

If I make the time, yes. DH is very willing to watch her for a couple hours while I go do something - whether is running to the mall or getting a mani.

I am VERY flexible with him and he goes out a lot more then I do, so he's pretty cool with it. He actually babysat Friday night so I could go to the movies and dinner with a friend. I Chat Icon him!

I need some! I can't seem to find the time to keep my house up, much less have "me" time... What I wouldn't give for that!

Rarely!! And I definitely need it. ALthough I try to run twice a week. But I have to do it first thing in the morning trying to beat DD waking up.

especially since I started looking for a new job, I feel every free moment is either working, job hunting, cleaning or cooking, or vegging out in front of the tv like a zombie. I miss doing things like getting my nails done, seeing my friends WITHOUT DD, going to movies, etc...

lately I have been trying to start that up again.

Re: Spin off to Noreen's post about "me" time for working moms...

I started to enjoy my commute time to work (reading, sleeping) , getting my morning coffee and enjoying my commute time home

then i love me some gossip girl and manicures (but even this is interrupted sometimes by DH calling with a baby Question)

In between seeing students and doing various tasks, I come on here. People think I am working but its my down time.

I am so busy- I rarely even take a lunch to myself. I am trying to work on that this year though. I am SO looking forward to maternity leave its not even funnyChat Icon

Re: Spin off to Noreen's post about "me" time for working moms...

Not enough, but I'm learning to make the time.
- I cherish my Sat or Sun errands to Target and the grocery store.
- I've started reading more after the kids go to sleep which has really helped me relax before going to bed.
- Every two weeks DH will take the boys for a haircut, so I enjoy the hour or two alone.
- I also get together with friends or co-workers once or twice a month after work for dinner or drinks.
- When I'm really hard up for a break, I will take a day off and still send the kids to daycare

I haven't done it in a while, but I used to go to Starbucks on Sun mornings for an hour or so. I'd bring a book or read the paper while drinking a latte. (I might start this up again this weekend)

Re: Spin off to Noreen's post about "me" time for working moms...

I try to fit in me time by taking yoga and pilates classes a couple of times per week. DS is with me but he's in the daycare so I do get an hour where I get to exercise and do something I enjoy. I'd love to have some time to read or just go shopping. If I really need those days, I end up taking a day off and spending the morning by myself before picking DS up from daycare. And Saturday mornings are "me" time because that is when DH gets up with DS.
