Re: Sorry to crash...AMH question

It sounds like she meant to tell you 2.7 and closer to 1 is bad bc that's true. Under 1 is low reserve. She must be confusing your numbers.

I hope that she is indeed confusing your numbers, which could be a harmless mistake BUT the fact that a nurse who works in an OBGYN or RE office (I am assuming that this is who ordered the test and read the results) is confusing these numbers scares me. This is what they do for a living!

Sorry to crash...AMH question

I would have one of the OB's speak with you personally- There is only ONE chart for AMH value ranges. The level is usually measured in ng/ml and any measure below one is considered low. The only way that your level is normal is if the test results are being reported using a different unit of measurement. An AMH of 1 and above is considered normal (although high levels can indicate PCOS). Any level below 1 is considered low and a level below 0.3 ng/ml is considered very low.

The information your NP provided you with sounds incorrect and if you have coverage it may not hurt to set up a consult with a RE.

Re: Sorry to crash...AMH question

I think you need to speak to the Dr directly. All the information the girls are giving you are correct. My AMH is .43 not so good. Closer to 1 would be better. It just confuses me that they would give you information that's incorrect when they should know this stuff like the back of their hand KWIM?

Nope. I callee at 8:30am and spoke to the nurse and she apologized that he never called me back and said she'd put me on the top of his call list.

Re: Sorry to crash...AMH question

I just called again and of course the doctor I've been waiting for is at the hospital today but they apologized that he hasnt called me back. So I told them to have the other doctor in the practice call me back today. Waiting again...

Re: Sorry to crash...AMH question

One of the new female doctors just called me. She said my numbers are not good and apologized for the nurse who obviously was not educated on the test. But she seemed positive and said this may be my only issue and I only need one egg. but i'm not ready to have a kid right now so i'm going to wait and see what happens on my own first and then if I do have a problem then I'll look into other means. I currently go to acupuncture for headaches so my acupuncturist said when I'm ready he'll work on pressure points for fertility.

Thanks everyone for their responses. Chat Icon

Sorry to crash...AMH question

If you are serious about having a second child do not wait- go talk to a reproductive endocrinologist now and see what they feel your best options are- once your ovarian reserve is depleted you cannot undo it. I was given this advice just under a year ago by an amazing friend of mine who waited just a little too long to start trying. She was in a similar situation as you--her AMH was low she was in a serious relationship but not yet married she decided to wait until after her engagement and wedding to start trying--it was about 16 months total-- five years later she has had a long struggle with infertility because within that time her AMH and egg quality declined.
It cannot hurt to discuss your options with a specialist now. Most OB's do not have the level of experience a reproductive endocrinologist has with these issues. Good luck!

Wholeheartedly agree. I think you need to really think about how important it is to have another child. I know you and your boyfriend just bought a house and aren't yet engaged, but an AMH level that low is considered undetectable (I have the same level). Talk with your boyfriend. Consider whether it is important for you to have a child together. I'm sorry the nurse gave you misinformation.

Re: Sorry to crash...AMH question

Some drs will even freeze your eggs now so you can use them in the future. I would consider thinking about this sooner than later. I see an acupuncturist and the only thing acu can do is increase blood flow to ovaries and uterus, as well as regulate hormone levels but it does not change your egg reserve. Acu is meant to improve the environment but it can't change your situation. I also rec seeing a RE. An OB is in no way an expert at fertility and that's why they refer you to a reproductive dr for their expertise. Even if it's just a consult. My first RE appt was when I was 23 and I did not want a child then but I had to discuss my future in being able to have kids bc of the damage to my ovaries. A consult can't hurt and will just give you more knowledge on your situation.

Agree with this 1000%. See an RE, weigh out all the options. It may not seem like something huge to deal with right now since you're not ready but I definitely do more research now. Maybe freezing eggs is a good idea. Good luckChat Icon

Very happy to hear this! Trivax is very blunt. He will tell you his honest opinion with egg reserve. I'm not sure if RS freezes eggs though. If they do not, I know SIRM and RMA does.
