i think before you go changing arond a lot
change the color to what you want
NIX that yellow
and see how that changes the tat

I actually like it, Jes. Color is an easy enough thing to change so I wouldn't stress about that. I'm sorry you're unahppy with it. Not to get off-topic, but is that your artwork in the background? Love it!

Okay so it's definitely not the picture you showed him... I guess this was his interpretation of it. It definitely has a quality about it that I do like but you are absolutely right about the yellow. I think with the yellow gone, and making it a darker shade of pink or purple, it may dramatically change the look for the better.
I have to say Jes - all this time you were talking about getting a full/half/ or 1/4 sleeve I was not on board. But now that I see it on you, it looks good on you!
Also, I think you should speak up about how unhappy you are about it alot sooner rather than later. You shouldn't have to pay for him to fix/change it since he didn't do what you asked.

thank you guys, you have put me at ease alittle.
dh just got home a minute ago and he actually likes it.
he agrees there is too many leaves and WHY would he put BLUE behind the leaves makes no sense to me, it makes it look like MORE LEAVES!
so, i have decided i am DONE with this artist. i am not going back to him. i dont care if he would fix it for free or cheap..... he and i obviously have very different views and ideas and i want to go to someone i am more in sync with.
i am going to get the yellow changed to a dark pink or purple, will get hearts and dots added too. i will see if they can change the blue behind the leaves to a dif color so it doesnt appear that there are double leaves.... and i will figure out about the actual rose later.
thans so much for your input.

First of all, it's not bad at all, from your first posts I was afraid to see it! But it's pretty! My only issue with it is that the rose seems to have too many layers—I think that's what make is resemble the Little Shop of Horrors plant thingee.
ETA: I love the scroll work around the plant and the stars.

Go in there today show the mngr what you wanted & what you got. And ask them what they are going to do to fix it. I don't think you have to pay for anything extra.
I don't see how these tattoo artist feel the need to do what they want.

Make him fix it...you should not have to save anything...it is not what you asked for.
I think it is workable, and I think he needs to start with the yellow....if he covers it, and adds some shadowing to the inside parts of the rose petals, then it will look less "cabbage Patch" as you put it. He should not cover it with a flat colour, as the CP affect will still be there. Also the green, same thing...more shadowing and maybe make it look more 3-D by adding extra shading on the lower part of the lower leaves.
I would definitely not wait to tell them you are not happy though. Let them know right away, and explain to them that you are an artist & you appreciate that he is too, but in the end you have to like the piece. If what you gave him is not what he did then he did not hold up his end of the bargain.
PLEASE come out to LI to DH guy for the rest of the sleeve He is very patient & will work WITH you when designing.

I like it - but agree that you should get the colors you want. And I would definitely either go to the same artist or the same place different artist and have it done for free. You paid a lot of $$$$$$$$ for that tat - I know cuz my ankle was detailed and cost $300!
You should have what you want, or at least the colors you want.

I like the size of it (it fits well on your arm) and the swirly designs, but I have to agree with what almost everyone else said about the color and the too many layers of petals.
How long will it take to heal before you can get the colors touched up or the rose re-worked?
