I plan to swaddle our baby. Supposedly babies like this because they are used to being in tight spaces in your womb.

my baby didn't like being swaddled and i didn't want him getting used to it anyway. we used a sleepsack and footie pajamas from the beginning.

it will def. depend on the baby but I would try your hardest to keep them swaddled - they will sleep much better (which means you will sleep much better Chat Icon )

I used the hospital blankets - then when he got too big for them we used the Miracle Blanket --- that was our lifesaver!!!

At 1 week old Emerson HATED to be swaddled. She would break her arms out of the swaddle and lose her mind when you would try to re-swaddle her so we've been using a sleepsack with her ever since. We had a lightweight one when it was warmer and now she sleeps with the heavier fleece one at night. Chat Icon

**EDIT - Another thing, she didn't like sleeping on her back either so between that and hating the swaddle it was hard to get her to sleep. We started using The First Years Sleep Positioner which cuddles her on the sides and it worked like a charm. She's been sleeping through the night since 8 weeks old. Now that she will sleep for almost 12 hr. stretches at a time we also use the Boppy Noggin Nest in addition to the sleep positioner to prevent "flat head".**

Def. depends on the baby. My DD didn't like it, but she kept scratching at her face and I hate thise mittens, so I swaddled instead.

My DD likes to sleep with her arms up over her head, so I use the halo sleepsack. I was swaddling her the first few days but found she really doesn't seem to prefer it. She can take it or leave it but she does love her arms to move about.

Re: Sleepsack on a Newborn? Or do they just sleep swaddled?

We have a sleepsack that has a swaddle attachment. Our DD likes being swaddled and this is an easy way to prevent her from coming out of the blanket and to keep warm.

Re: Sleepsack on a Newborn? Or do they just sleep swaddled?

i thought my DS hated to be swaddled, but when i finally figured out that the swaddle wasn't tight enough - and that i needed to use the swaddle me instead of a blanket - i started swaddling him again at 5 weeks and he has slept SO well since then! although i am not looking forward to breaking the swaddling habit Chat Icon i told DH i was going to swaddle DS until he was 18 Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

My daughter was swimming in the sleepsack, so much that it was useless.

I HIGHLY recommend the miracle blanket!!!!!!!!!

The SwaddleMe was a godsend for the 1st few months

Then I upgraded to the Miracle Blanket--we stayed this way until DS was 7 months and then started the Saks

Re: Sleepsack on a Newborn? Or do they just sleep swaddled?

totally depends on baby...

both DD's liked to be swaddled for a week or so and then started to break free. i found the best blankets to use for swaddling are the ones they use in the hospital, so make sure to snag a couple Chat Icon

DD#2 will be 4 weeks come thursday and she's been using a sleepsack or blankets for a couple weeks now. what really helps is tummy sleeping, but that's a whole other "bad mommy" can of worms...Chat Icon

Mommy2bella (Kelly) told me the miracle blanket was a must have...better than the swaddle me, so I am registered for that!

We swaddled DD using receiving blankets for a week or two, then, switched to the swaddle me until she was a little over a month. From one month to now she has used a sleep sack.
