skin issues

Anyone have acne? My skin has been getting so bad. I want to go a dermo but I know they are just going to put me on meds that are bad for ttc and pg women bc everything I've always been on is bad for pg and ttc women. What do you use? Anyone know of an all natural dermo? My sister suggested a liver cleanse and may try that if I get a bfn this month.

Just a side note about the green tea. Be careful when you get pregnant. My friend told me it prevents absorption of colic acid. Didn't research it too much but I took her word for it since she has many dr friends.

Re: skin issues

My derm put me on Ziana few months ago ,loved it, worked great within days, but it's a category C drug, so when we started TTC last month and she switched me to Finacia which is a category B , she said it's safe to use while TTC and pregnancy , she also said it's not as good as Ziana, but still pretty good.
I should mention though that I don't really have a big acne issue, I just have been breaking out here and there this past few months, so both medications (Ziana and Fenacia) worked great for me.
Finacea was approved by FDA for the treatment or Rosecia (spl) but it's also used for acne breakouts.
Maybe you can ask your derm.

Good luck.

Re: skin issues

thanks teach

i did a search and this is what i found

Limit Green Tea Consumption During the First Trimester of Pregnancy

According to a study published in the March 2005 issue of Cancer Research, ECGC, a catechin present in green tea in amounts about 5 times higher than in black tea, inhibits the enzyme dihydrofolate reductase (DHFR), which cancer cells need to be able to grow, and which is a well recognized target of anti-cancer drugs.

Scientists decided to look at ECGC after they realized the green tea catechin looks a lot like the cancer drug methotrexate, which prevents cancer cells from making DNA by inhibiting the DHFR enzyme. They discovered that ECGC kills cancer cells in the same way as the drug.

Although ECGC binds strongly to DHFR, which is essential in both healthy and cancerous cells, it does not bind as tightly as methotrexate, so its side effects on healthy cells are less severe than those of the drug.

ECGC's binding to DHFR may also explain why women who drink large amounts of green tea around the time they conceive and early in their pregnancy may have an increased risk of having a child with spina bifida or other neural tube disorders.

Women are advised to take supplements of folic acid when trying to conceive and during the first trimester (the first 3 months) of pregnancy because it is during this time period that the baby's neural tube is developing. Folic acid helps ensure normal development and protects against spina bifida by enabling the production of the enzyme DHFR. While a cup or two of green tea is unlikely to pose a problem, drinking large amounts of green tea could decrease the activity of DHFR, increasing risk of neural tube defects.

Nutritional Profile

One bag of green tea contains 0 calories, approximately 0.06 mg of caffeine, and 80-100 mg of polyphenols, 25-30 mg of which are epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG).

Ugh I have really horrible acne. The dermatologist prescribed a couple of topical creams that she said were okay to use while trying to conceive and during pregnancy. Just tell the dr. you are trying to conceive they will prescribe something that is okay to use.

Re: skin issues

When I was a teenager, I had moderate acne. BCPs helped to clear it up a little, but I still had mild acne. Now off the pill, I have mild acne still. Ugh..I am so jealous of people with clear skin! Right now I am using Clean and Clear face wash and then Neutrogena on the spot acne medication when I get a flare up. It helps to clear it up.
