SAHMs, do you plan to go back to work eventually? If so, when?

The current plan is for me to stay at home once we have DC#2 (hopefully sometime next year).

SAHMs, do you plan to go to work eventually?

I used to think once the kids are in school, I'll go back.

I am planning on taking courses towards nursing or resp therapist, then i can work 2 nights a week...i would never go back to my old career after having kids. So i would want that on the back burner in case needed.

If I were to go back it would 110% be for financial reasons only.

Yes, once both my children are in school, I plan on going back P/T. I wont ever go back to F/T though.

I left it wide open. I really didn't know how I would cope with being home all day with a baby. I never knew I'd love it so much. And I never knew I'd be so overprotective. I'm a nervous wreck anytime anyone watches him.

I'll probably do it once he's in daycare. When that will be ... who knows. I loved my job, I love the people I worked with, but I don't miss it all enough.

And then, DH told me he wants #2 soon IDK I think I'm destined for this SAHM thing for a while.

Yes, I eventually plan to go back to work. DS is 3 months old, for now the plan is to stay home with him until he is a at least a year old or so...maybe later if it's financially feasible. Ultimately, I would like to go back to school and get a degree in teaching while I am home with DS so that when I do go back to work, it's in a new field. I do not plan to go back to my old field.

Since I'm preggo with #2 I plan on going back to work P/T once he/she is in Kindergarden

Nope. In 2 years when they are both in school full time I plan on volunteering at a few specific places on a more regular basis than I can right now.

Right now I work PT until DC#2 is born next month.

I am not going back to work after my leave is over.

I'm "older" so by the time my kids are both in school full time, I will be over 45. I have no intention on trying to come back to the company I'm at now or in the field that I'm in now.

Ideally, I would perhaps try to find a low key stress free, pt job. Or something within the school system so that I can be on the same schedule as my kids.

It's highly unlikely. To me it seems HARDER rather than easier to go back once "the kids are in school". If you have a baby or toddler, you probably either have a full-time daycare place, or a full-time caregiver (nanny or grandparent). So your child's whole day is accounted for by either of these childcare options. With elementary school kids, you have to arrange for care before school and after school, plus all the school holidays, snow days, half days, school trips and events, after school activities, and so forth. Staying home and being available for all this seems like the easiest option for our family.

I have almost 1 month old twins
the plan is next year stay home
year after that try to go back part time or if finances allow stay home again,
i will try to only work part time till they are 4 then i have to go back full time i am a nyc teacher

I plan on going back to work when both kids are in school full time (approximately 5 years). I will not be going back to my old job though & hope to find something within the school system so I can be home for school vacations & summers with them

I planned on going back in March, but i got sick and that ended it. Now I plan on going back to babysitting in the fall. My hubby has had some medical issues that have forced him into early retirement, so now I HAVE to go back...

I love being home ! I just had DS 2 a month ago. DS 1 will be 2 yrs in september. Once the kids go to school I will go back. I feel bad that all the pressure is on DH . plus we could live really nicely if I went back to work so as much as I would love to stay home, Our kids would have so much if I went back. plust they will be in school all day so I wouldn't feel bad going back.

I want to go back right now to make some $. I know that once we have DC#2, I'll definitely have to stay home with 2 kids to take care of. The problem is that my mom can't watch him full time & my mil works but I wouldn't want her to watch him more than 1 day a week anyway.

I was a SAHM mom until DS was 17 mos old. We didn't have a plan for me to return to work, but we moved and our rent double, so that "forced" me to go back to work.

I think if he had not moved, I'd still be a SAHM and probably had another kid by now.

I have no interest in ever going back to work. Maybe when all my kids are in middle school and up otherwise I want to be home so I can chaperone trips, see their plays, volunteer at school, and never miss a thing while they are little.

Not sure yet. DS is 13, DD is 10mths, and we are going back and forth about whether or not we are going to have another. I am on the email list for Suffolk county civil service, so I will take the tests for any 10 month school positions.

I do a little p/t freelance here and there so technically i'm working while being a SAHM. I think I'll go back f/t when the munchkin (and addt'l munchkins) are in school.

I plan to go back part time when DS goes to school and when he is old enough to be home alone (latch key kid)I will go full time. (but only if DH makes me )

When they go to school I will hopefully be finished with my degree and get a FT job.

I work 8 hours a month (sometimes less ) right now, so I am really a SAHM. I work in healthcare and once my kids are in school full time I plan to work 1 overnight a week for extra money. And then I can sleep 4-5hours while the kids are in school.

I was a former SAHM. I didn't plan on it, we moved back to NY when I was 7 months pregnant.

I went back to work when DS#1 was 18 months and was 5 months pregnant with DS#2.


I am so happy with my decision to go back.
