2yo birthday party wwyd
dd was invited to a birthday party for one of her daycare friends. i have never met the child, or the parents for that matter (my mother does pick up and drop off since its part time care and i work).
i plan on attending, i think its a great opportunity to meet the kids and other moms and I am sure dd will enjoy.
Do i RSVP yes for dd and I, or do I include my DH and our 6month old son? obvi our 6mo would be free, but im not sure what is "proper" in this situation
eta - its at a gymnastics place

I have many couples come to the party with child. If you want your husband to go, just tell her you will both be coming. I have twins so almost always at this point try to make sure DH is with me.

Hrm I only have one so I answer 1 plus 2 adults but if its not clear on siblings I'd probably just do me and her and leave hubby at home with the younger one.
I am now clear on my invites (Siblings welcome)

I think it depends on where the party is.

Re: 2yo birthday party wwyd
I usually bring DH with me so I have someone to talk to. I am not good with small talk or other women in general. It has never been an issue. the adults are usually not included in the head count.
Most times they do have pizza or something for the adults but DH never eats anything anyway.

Re: 2yo birthday party wwyd
I would RSVP " DD will attend and my husband and I are looking forward to meeting you!"
I wouldn't mention about the baby since at that age she wouldn't get charged for him.

I would just do DD and you, let 6 month old stay with dad. ETA: I don't think it's bad to bring them, but if I was meeting people for the first time, I'd rather be able to chat with them and not have my baby there as well.

I know this is on the other thread too. What do you think is the reason you both feel so tortured at these events? For me, sometimes I feel like I'm not a lot like most of the moms around me. I feel like in my neighborhood everyone gets really dressed up with expensive bags and like high heels even at kiddie parties. So sometimes I think to myself eh I'm not like them, I won't get along. Plus I have sort of a different sense of humor and stuff like that. BUT when I just jump in and hang out, I usually realize that some of the moms actually are cool and I shouldn't be so uptight.

I notice you keep saying your not good with small talk, not into socializing etc. You do alot on boards though. Why so not into it in person???

Eh on the boards it's just internet chat. Not face to face. No pressure. If I get bored I can click elsewhere or leave. Face to face is a whole other ball game and you have to chit chat even when you have no desire to. I am sure plenty of socially awkward people such as myself do much better on chat boards!

I'd probably just go with DD. I often bring my twins alone to parties and it works out.

Re: 2yo birthday party wwyd
You don't know what kid of space the venue has for adults, plus I don't like people having to pay extra for adult food for me plus DH. Most of the parties we go to are kids of friends of mine so I always have people to talk to though.

Re: 2yo birthday party wwyd
I think its fine if you say your child is coming and go as a family. The 6mo obviously cant participate and will be held by you or your husband, if the child was an age where the hostess would be charged then it would be different.

I don't think there is a right or wrong here, but I would just RSVP for everyone who is coming, including DS. I personally am of the view that if the sibling isn't invited don't ask to bring them, but a 6 month old I'm sure is totally fine to bring.
On a side note, I have two brothers and growing up we never went to each others friends parties - is it a new thing to ask to bring the sibling?

Re: 2yo birthday party wwyd
I always RSVP that my DC will attend. I have never RSVP'd with how many adults are attending.....I've had plenty of kids parties myself and have never had any adults rsvp with a total. It is usually just if the child can attend.

It's not a new thing to bring the sibling but sometimes the parent has no choice. I was at a party a few weeks ago and the mom had to bring her 8 year old DD because her husband was working. The 8 year old didn't participate in the party or activities. Just sat with her mom and played games on an ipod.

In our area, there are a lot of parents who work weekends so many people ask to bring a sibling. They usually offer to pay for the extra child.

I get that. I don't mean when the kid comes but doesn't participate. That is sad though for a kid to have to watch other kids have fun at a party

I would bring your child and leave the baby home. I think it's rude to ask to bring siblings or just show up with them.

Re: 2yo birthday party wwyd
For a two-year old's party, I would not think twice about bringing my dh. On the weekends, we do things as a family. This is just my opinion, but I would welcome dads because to me that would mean the dad wants to socialize too.
