IMO if you want specifics on your deli order you need to go to a deli and not the supermarket.

And at SnS they do take orders in the order the computer tells them so if there are tons of kiosk orders then they will seem to be taken care of first.

So

I'm sorry but I am going to have to disagree with this statement -- if I want specifics on a deli order, I have to go to an actual deli?!?! I'm not asking for rare, imported meats and cheeses -- I'm looking for good 'ole Boars Head products, but if I ask for my turkey sliced thin, that's more than a reasonable request. If I ask for 1/2lb of cheese, I want 1/2lb of cheese -- not something closer to 3/4lb.

The kiosk has an option for how you want it cut.

Yeah -- they don't pay attention to that request. They also have an option for how much of the cold cut you want -- that doesn't seem to matter much either.

So when you order it at the counter they do pay attention? Whats the difference? Same employees cutting it. Why dido tey only cut it wrong on kiosk orders?

If I'm at the actual counter standing in front of them as they work on my order, I can see whats being done. If I see the meat is being sliced too thick or thin, I ask them to change it. When they put it on the scale to weigh it, I see the weight. If I asked for 1/2lb and the scale says .78, I tell them that its over and to please remove the extra. Yes, same employees doing the work, but very different when you pop your order into a machine and walk away.

Re: Rant of the Day......

I just had this discussion with dh bc for me at least the line is always so long bc people ask for so many requests

When I was there the other day every single person asked to to either see the thinness,or asked for a sample of 3 kinds before deciding, asked for a new meat to slice. Asked for them
To turn the meat around so it wasn't the end

One lady kept stopping the guy as he was slicing for samples of the salads.

Makes the line go so slow! I like mine thin to but people are nuts with the demands

Last time I got cold cuts (not at S&S) I waited almost an hour because people wanted samples of everything before choosing. It was a nightmare. There was one guy who definitely made a free lunch of samples. I don't buy cold cuts often, but I had NEVER seen this before. Now if I want cold cuts from this particular supermarket I go on a weeknight when no one is there.

I also like my cold cuts thin and it bugs me when they're not. Going over on the weight doesn't bother me though.....they always get eaten!

YES.... No further explanation needed. Waiting 30 minutes for cold cuts when your number is 4 numbers away is absolutely ridiculous.

Maybe they have more people working the kiosks because more customers use them then actually wait online at the deli counter. It makes sense to me. Just because you choose to wait at the deli counter doesn't make you more superior to the other customers using the kiosk to order.

I'm not asking for special/superior treatment -- I'm asking for EQUAL treatment. You have 5 people working the kiosk orders, than put 5 people working on the counter orders.

How is this necessarily equal though? If they have 5 kiosk orders and 5 counter orders, then having equal employees is equal treatment. However, my guess is that their kiosk orders are much greater-10, 15, 20 orders, so they've places more employees at the kiosk station-which seems logical to me.

Then again, I've given up getting cold cuts at my grocery store on the weekend. I get a number, do all of my shopping, and usually still have 10-15 people in front of me!

I've never gotten the wrong amount from the kiosk but I have gotten it too thick. However I just put 2 slices instead of 3 on my sandwich not a big deal imo. If u want perfect slices then u have to deal with tje wait I guess. They cant stop doing kiosk order bc the line is too long

Re: Rant of the Day......

This infuriates me. I was at tjmax last week standing on line. They have about 8 registers, with only 2 open. There was easily about 25 people on line behind me. There were about 5 more employees just standing around behind the counter, looking clueless, doing nothing. Two people on line started getting pissed, and yelled at employee to call the manager up front. The manager arrives and was like "what's the problem?". The customers said "are you kidding, look at this line, why have 8 registers, with 2 open, and all your other employees just Standing there?" She got the hint and opened up 3 more. Customer service is dead. That's what I've reallzed. It's so frustrating

I was going to say I use the kiosk (on the rare occasion we get cold cuts)all the time and never had an issue.
But I'm not picky about cold cuts I guess.

Also when I do order at the counter I don't' stand there, especially when it's crowded, and watch the guy cutting it to make sure it's thin or thick enough as it comes off the slicer. Sometimes I can't even see him if his back is turned or there are other people milling around back there.
I guess I'm a low maintenance ham and cheese girl!

If you are going to the farmingdale SnS I feel your pain. It's bad. I stopped doing a bunch of shopping there. The smaller markets are better!!!!! And cheaper!!

Agree! Especially with so many people back there. I don't see why some of the people doing the machine orders couldn't hop over to help actual people waiting on line to help shorten the wait.

And I also agree about the drive thru comment. Even when the drive thru is backed up 4-5 cars and there is no one waiting inside, I have found that by the time I get out that 5th car in gone (yes, I mental note who is waiting to see if I made the right choice by going in). Noticed this at Dunkin Donuts, Starbucks and Panera drive thru. Really bugs me. Was especially annoyed cause someone in drive thru got the last soufflé at Panera while I was waiting inside. UGH!

You should speak to the store manager. Explain that kiosk orders have often been incorrect so you go directly to the deli to be sure to get what you want, only to be made to wait for service while kiosk orders are filled. Tell him when you posted a complaint online here you found it was happening to others, some of whom said they are avoiding his store because of poor customer service there. He needs to look into the situation.

S&S in general just sucks IMO. I find expired meats all the time and stuff in dairy. I bring it to employees' attention and they don't give a crap. Courtesy desk is no better. Only other store near me is King Kullen and they so over priced. I do most of my shopping in Target these days and the local deli for meats. Produce is best at Costco and BJs. More running around but less aggregation.

Re: Rant of the Day......

My stop n shop is the opposite. I've used the kiosk and my stuff wasn't ready by the time I was dont shopping. And it wasn't a lot of stuff or difficult. They definitely do over cut though and i end up paying for meat I won't use and end up tossing.

I usually take a number and run and get produce right there. The wait depends on what ppl before me are getting. I go there bc there are no good local delis by me and bc I don't have time to trek to 2 places especially with kids in tow.

Well I guess I will be the only one to agree. Whenever I have gone to Stop and Shop, I have had to deal with the same thing. I really think they need to cater to the person standing there waiting for their order, not someone who doesn't want to wait and goes shopping.
Every other place makes you wait, there is no reason to have everyone on the orders for people not there. I would rather stand there and wait for 25 mins with people right there ordering than ones that are too lazy to wait.

EXACTLY!!!!!! The problem with people these days is no one wants to wait.

I couldn't agree more. A PP said that they pick a n umber, shop the nearby produce and wait while they shop. I do the same. Sorry but they think the machines are more important than people. I am so turned off by this kiosk thing. I think they're losing business, too. There have been SO many times where I'm at the counter and I notice a sale price on something and just get it, or "the xyz looks so good, I will just get some" and they're definitely losing businesss when they ask if they've gone over a bit, is it ok? I usually take the order anyway.
I think if they're willing to put up with a picky customer like the guy ordering samples, they will spend the same amt of time cutting my cold cuts (I'm not as fussy but I like to shop)
Waiting 30 mins is crazy, but I would expect it.

ETA: Nothing gets me more mad than when I go to Dollar Tree and there are 6 registers and only 1 is open and the line is a mile long. Don't people want jobs sooooo badly? Chat Icon

For whoever said people who use kiosks are lazy is ridiculous. I'm sorry but i find it more efficient. I can get the rest of my shopping done in the time it takes them to get to my order. I much rather be using that extra 30 min doing something else rather than waiting in line for cold cuts at the store.

Rant of the Day......

I actually miss this service (place the order come back later) but that said.. our major chain sorta pushes the personal experience thing so they have tons of folks at the deli working during rush hours. 25min wait is way too long for me.. I'd have left.

Re: Rant of the Day......

How is the person who's putting in their order at the kiosk and continuing their shopping instead of waiting 25+ minutes considered lazy?? And it wouldn't make sense from a business standpoint to put an equal number of deli workers for both face-to-face orders and kiosk orders. If they have a lot more people working the kiosk orders it stands to reason it's because they have a lot more kiosk orders in the queue. If they had an equal amount of orders on both queues they would more evenly disperse the deli workers. At first glance waiting 25 minutes when you're sixth in line sounds ridiculous, but that's an average of 4-5 minutes per customer. 4-5 minutes of the customer playing on their cell phones and not paying attention that they're next, complaining that the slices are too thick, too thin, the wrong end... asking for 20 pounds worth of cold cuts and deli salads, asking to taste everything before they finally decide what they want, and people acting like it's a free lunch buffet. Once broken down, it doesn't sound like an unreasonable wait time.

Also, I assume you live in NY, not Kansas. Lines are just longer here for everything. Especially on a weekend, and especially when the weather is nicer out than it has been in two months. Look at traffic.

Contact the store manager if it really bothers you.

Rant of the Day......

The volume of people using the kiosk is higher then the volume of the people standing there. So more people need to work on the kiosk. Besides the whole point of the kiosk is to save you time, so if it takes longer then it takes you to do the rest of your grocery shopping it would be pointless. Your talking about a weekend. Pre-kiosk you used to have to wait at least an hour on a weekend for your cold cuts! So even though you waited 25 minutes, that kiosk is still saving you time.
