Rant of the Day......
I waited at the Stop and Shop deli today for over 25 minutes. When I pressed the ticket dispenser, they were on #41 and I got #46. The estimated wait time was 5 minutes. Here's why I am annoyed. They had 2 people working the actual counter and 6 (I counted) working the "automated" deli machine where people put in their orders and then come back to get them. Now I realize that some people will say, "So whats the big deal? Just put your order in the machine and do the rest of your shopping." That doesn't work for me. On numerous occasions when I attempted to use the machine, they gave me the wrong amount of meat/cheese (i.e. I asked for 1/2lb and get 3/4lb) or I ask for the meat to be cut thin and it gets cut into thick slabs which I frankly don't want to eat on my sandwich.
I have found this to be a recent trend at many establishments. For example, fast-food places. There are tons of people working the drive-thru and so few at the actually in-store registers. Anyone else feel the same way? It annoys me to think that because I choose to go into a store or wait at a deli to give you my actual order, my time is deemed "less valuable" and I'm expected to wait for an unreasonable amount of time. Am I crazy?!?!

Re: Rant of the Day......
i don't think the wait between #41 and #46 (or 25 minutes) is unreasonable amount of time to wait at a deli counter on a weekend.
I think you are overreacting.

Rant of the Day......
That happens to the Stop and Shop that I go to. My DH had gotten into an argument with someone behind the counter because of that. All the people behind the counter were working the kiosk and no one was waiting on the people standing in front of them! The answer from the person behind the counter? "Well we wait on what the computers tell is to do". My DH refuses to use the kiosk because he likes to see the thinness of the cold cuts. Me, I use the kiosk when I go by myself.

I don't buy cold cuts that often. It's rare. But I've taken to grabbing a pre-packaged thing of cheese or ham. Or I prefer to just go to a good local deli.

IMO if you want specifics on your deli order you need to go to a deli and not the supermarket.
And at SnS they do take orders in the order the computer tells them so if there are tons of kiosk orders then they will seem to be taken care of first.

Well I guess I will be the only one to agree. Whenever I have gone to Stop and Shop, I have had to deal with the same thing. I really think they need to cater to the person standing there waiting for their order, not someone who doesn't want to wait and goes shopping. Every other place makes you wait, there is no reason to have everyone on the orders for people not there. I would rather stand there and wait for 25 mins with people right there ordering than ones that are too lazy to wait.

To Stop and Shop a customer is a customer--they don't care if you're standing there or doing your shopping. Like pp said if you want personalized service, go to a deli.
And I think the people who order at the kiosk aren't lazy--just more efficient. How is it being lazy to not stand around at the deli counter??

Thank you! I knew I couldn't be the only person irked by this. I'd have no problem if the workers behind the counter were a little bit more evenly dispersed between counter orders and machine orders. It just seems there are always double or triple the number of people dedicated to kiosk orders.

I'm sorry but I am going to have to disagree with this statement -- if I want specifics on a deli order, I have to go to an actual deli?!?! I'm not asking for rare, imported meats and cheeses -- I'm looking for good 'ole Boars Head products, but if I ask for my turkey sliced thin, that's more than a reasonable request. If I ask for 1/2lb of cheese, I want 1/2lb of cheese -- not something closer to 3/4lb.

You have more patience to stand there and wait then someone who just throws someone an order and leaves. I just find it annoying too. I go to a place that has a deli part so I don't have to deal with that anymore but I just don't feel it is right. What is the point of even making people wait then? Make it all put your order in and go then.

Yes, I totally agree with this. When I have done this, there were more people on the other orders than the personal service of face to face. Why not just stop the face to face then since the customer service for that personally stinks, IMO.

Re: Rant of the Day......
I always use the kiosks when I can, but if it is down and I have to wait, I usually go there first, look at the number I am given, shop around the area (usually produce) and only go back when it is a number or two before mine. Some stores (I think Shoprite, no SnS though), have the numbers all over the store so you know who is being attended to.

Re: Rant of the Day......
It is a deli! A deli in a supermarket! I order from the kiosk just because it's faster, but I agree they usually mess up my order. I would have been pissed to wait 25 minutes when I was only the 5th person on line. That's crazy. I was out today shopping too, though, and all the stores were crazy! It was like everyone came out of their winter burrows once the sun came out today.

Maybe they have more people working the kiosks because more customers use them then actually wait online at the deli counter. It makes sense to me. Just because you choose to wait at the deli counter doesn't make you more superior to the other customers using the kiosk to order.

I'm not asking for special/superior treatment -- I'm asking for EQUAL treatment. You have 5 people working the kiosk orders, than put 5 people working on the counter orders.

Then just have it done that way and don't make people wait. Common sense which the world seems to lack.

Re: Rant of the Day......
I have also noticed this at my S&S (may be the same one). I use the kiosk because I cannot stand waiting at the deli counter because it takes soooooooooooo long. One time the kiosk order was wrong and I told the manager and she gave me a gift card. Anyway, it seems like if there are SO many kiosk orders and SO many people waiting in line then the most obvious solution is that they need to have more people working the deli counter during those busy times. Seems fairly simple to me but I guess they don't care because at the end of the day, people will wait.

Sounds annoying. I hate using the kiosk too. I'm guessing these days they just have more kiosk orders they need to stay on top of???

No, I definitely get it. Anytime I go to Starbucks in wantagh, there are 90 people working and maybe 1 is on the register. It's frustrating.
And we don't use the order ahead maching either.

the stop and shop deli employees do not give a flying f*** who they help first. They are doing what they are instructed to do. Write a letter.

Bane of my existence. I don't eat cold cuts but DH does. I swear, when I die and there is an accounting of the time in my life, I feel like 32% of my life will have been at that damn deli counter. I usually go to Best Market so it's not just SnS.

Yeah -- they don't pay attention to that request. They also have an option for how much of the cold cut you want -- that doesn't seem to matter much either.
