[Poll] Are you plus sized?
I was discussing this morning how misleading a "plus sized" label can be. Most stores I've shopped at consider anything over size 12 a plus size.
I'm a big girl - tall with a big frame. I've been on the low end of plus-sized stores such as Lane Bryant but I cannot shop at regular stores. NY and Company is as far as I can go and even then, I'm in their high-end sizes.
Even my doctor never guesses my weight correctly - I distribute it well. So when I lost 30 pounds, people thought I had come out of the plus-sized zone. I never did. My wedding dress was still a true, unaltered 16.
So if you wouldn't mind taking the anonymous poll, I'm thinking that there are a lot of women out there that are like me - in the plus sized zone but other people may not realize it.
And if you feel it's too personal a question, there is always "other".

Re: [Poll] Are you plus sized?
Well, at my heaviest, I don't think anyone would have guessed I was a 12 (at 5'4" and 150lbs) - people still were like "Oh you are tiny" blah blah ... and these are people who have known me for years - when I was 100lbs wet in my 20's.
So sometimes I think it's just a perception based on how people see you.
I also wouldn't consider 12 as "plus sized".

Re: [Poll] Are you plus sized?
I'm not, but sometimes I think I look heavier than I am because I carry it all in my thighs! My pants today are a 6 but I could go even smaller in the waist...But smaller doesn't fit up my thighs.
I don't think of a 12 as plus-sized though. I think of it as 16+, but I know Lane Bryant starts smaller than that.

Size 12 for me is not plus size You can still shop in normal stores. It always annoys me when plus size models are size 12.

Re: [Poll] Are you plus sized?
I'm not, but almost a year ago I was busting out of my 10's. I started weight watchers last December and am down to a size 6, which I need to be at 5'2". I carry all of my weight in my stomach.
I definitely do NOT think that a size 12 is "plus size." I think that a size 12 is pretty average actually.

I don't think it should be 12 either. And it has been changing. But I've been in plenty of stores that stop at 12.

Re: [Poll] Are you plus sized?
i'm definitely plus sized...i'm short and chubby. i've been pretty plus sized for most of my adolesence---once i hit puberty i went from a size 7 to size 14. it sucked balls...but what can ya do. i've come to realize this is how i will be, no matter what i do.
i'm now at about an 18/20 regular size and sometimes a 16 in lane bryant sizes. (they cut their clothes different than regular stores, without a doubt).
my wedding gown was a size 20...but had to be altered a lot. my problem is i have a large belly, that is what makes me go up a size or two--otherwise i'd probably be only a 14/16. damn my gut!

Re: [Poll] Are you plus sized?
I am in your boat. Lane Bryant is too big but in a reg store I fill out their big size. I consider myself plus sized because that is what society/fashion industry does. But it in no way affects anything but where I shop.

I wear a 10 or 12 (and not ashamed!) - but I cannot fit into anything at Lane Bryant - except their bras!

Re: [Poll] Are you plus sized?
I am a plus size as well. I went to Lane Bryant last night with my mother and we both found nothing. Mom is also a plus size. We ended up in Dress Barn and did pretty good. I can wear clothes from Kohl's as well. I am basically a 16-18, but, lately have been falling into the 16 category and hope to keep going down.
Wow! Can't believe I just admitted that! Awesome!
When I go to the Dr. the nurse will set the scale on a lower number...then as I
she usually is raising it, then lowering it, then raising it..etc. I should just say "Just start at this number and we will take it from there"..LOL.

Re: [Poll] Are you plus sized?
I've been a 12-14 most of my adult life. There was a 20 second period of time I was an 8-10. My thinnest, but that didn't last long..
I'm able to shop at most regular stores and almost never go to the plus sized dept. I have to admit though that I did buy a plus sized top recently and it was very comfy.. DH thought it was too big on me, but I didn't care.
There are a few items that I will go to a 16 on. I don't really care about the number as long as it fits right and looks good. Ann Taylor size 14 pants fit me well and their XL tops fit me ok..but they have a lot of knits and that makes me look too lumpy. I too have a belly and big boobs.
I'm hoping to drop to a 12 and stay there since it's a good size for me and then my weight will be in the range it's supposed to me for my height. I'm currently about 25 pounds too heavy for the charts..oh well. I have 12s in my closet that I would love to fit into but I'm just about ready to donate some of them since I will probably want new things.
Most think I'm thin at that weight!! It's at the top of the range and most thin people I know fall in the lower end..that's a little intimidating. If my cousin doesn't stop losing weight I will have to kill her..she's currently a size 4..blech..good for her..but she doesn't eat..really, she lives on protein bars and cereal..
So that's my take..more than anyone really wanted to know.

I don't consider a 12 or 14 plus sized. Could also be because I am biased & wear a 10-12 & not ashamed. I have big thighs, what can I do about that

Re: [Poll] Are you plus sized?
I'm a 12 - have been a 14. I've NEVER shopped in the plus sized departments or stores and have never had to.
Hopefully come spring, I'll be down to an 8.
I personally don't consider a 12 or a 14 to be plus sized, but to each his own.

Re: [Poll] Are you plus sized?
I've been a 12-14 since my son was born. I do not consider 12-14 to be plus size. But, I have to say on my frame (I'm 5'2" and top heavy) I look thicker than a girl who is say 5'6" or taller.

I 100% agree, a sz 12 is not plus sz, I consider anything 16+ plus sized, which sadly I am.
