please tell me if this would irritate you all....

k, so u all know i am loving the name felcity (no, it isnt def- like i said, greg is NOt on board with this name...i have some other names----lyla, lily, charley...) anyway--- i watched felicity back in college days (note- no tivo, and no, i didnt get too into it, considering all my pre-med classes and playing soccer AND softball).....ANYway, i bought all 4 seasons about 3 years ago so that i can watch the show in its entirety....ANYway, ive always liked that name, etc etc etc...my sister, as well. she loooooooooves the show felicity, love that name, etc etc- so we both have that name on our lists.....note- she has 6 kids- 2 girls, and no, none of their names are fel obviously....

anyway, i called her last nite to tell her she is going to have another niece (she only has one- hannah)....i left a message, then called her back about 20 min later, no answer....i sent out a mass email, telling everyone "girl" and yeah, maybe itll be felicity......she doesnt call me back, and doesnt even respond to the email, but calls me MOM back to talk crap about me, saying that is on HER list and has been on HER list for 9 years now!!!!

WHAT!!!!!?????

k- SORRY u started having kids EIGHT years before me and developed your list before me....sorry we both have that name (note- we also both have phoebe, zoe, chloe, hannah, lily....)....you have TWO girls (not like u have 6 boys)- you could have TOTALLY used this name TWO times......i am having a girl NOW- am i supposed to hold off on all names that are the same because u may or may not have another girl? and what if i go on to have 5 girls? are all of these names exempt to use????

i mean, cmon....she told me mom SHE was the one to "got me into" watching that show (not true)...she told my mom its HER name and she cannot believe i am considering using it........

and the bottom line- she STILL hasnt called or responded thru email- not a congrats or ANYthing!!!!

oh yeah, and if she wanted to name her next girl hannah, GO A-freaken-HEAD! you live 300 miles away from me and i see you and my nieces and nephews like 3 times a year...i wouldnt even CARE!

ETA- the last 3 times she was pregnant, i said, are u using the name felicity? she said, no, she thinks its cheesy because she has a ben (felicitys boyfriend on the show for 4 years....) so....

dont stress-even family has thier moments. Talk it out when the time comes..but know its your decision no matter what to name your child what YOU want.

and yes, she is totally planning on having more KIDS!!! she thinks maybe 8, but doesnt know when she wants to stop...dont get me wrong, have babies! great....but dont ban your only sister from using a name that SHE likes bc u may or may not have another girl- cmon now....

Ah.... this is why I followed the advice of several people who had kids before me... under no circumstances (Chinese water torture included ) was I revealing the names before they were born.

So many people advised me not to because when they did someone always had something to say no matter what the name was... yes, even if it was a junior or a name that has been in the family before... not just for more unique names.

I'm sorry your sister is being this way. I would think that after having 6 kids she would have made sure she used most of her favorite names by now In theory that's 12 names.

Oh, and as for Ben, I don't associate it with any one Ben in particular. There are several much more well known Bens.

I'm sorry your sister is being selfish about this


ETA: One, of my many cousins, has 8. I swear, almost every boy name known to the English language is taken in my family, several times I always say if I had two boys the other would have to be named "Circle" or after a number because everything else is taken.

Ok, so she is your sister , but I HATE people like that.... It's a friggin name, and she has no claim to it! We have a friend in our circle that we hardly see, and she was PG with her first. A boy. She told all of us (who were PG with our second at the time), that we could not use the name Sarah because that was what she wanted to name her girl.

Although I did tell DH's friend who is also named Scott and grew up on the same block as DH something similar. He named his first born Sarah spelled the same way as ours so I said that if they have a son next and name him Andrew I'm going to be weirded out. He shot me a look like I was insane.

It's pretty crappy that your own sister can't just be happy for you! You obviously have a name chosen that you love and she had it on her "list" then it should just come off of her list. It seems so shallow! I hope she comes around to just being happy for you and the birth of your little girl!!!

I agree with you on this -- I think it is perfectly fair game. And I'm sad for you that your sister has not congratulated you because of something like this. I hope she comes around.

I would be really annoyed at her reaction. I could maybe see her being a little upset inside that you "may" use a name she likes, but to make a big deal of it to your mom is just plain silly. And the fact that she hasn't called you back or atleast replied to your email is just mean. I'm sorry she's making you feel bad/frustrated.

She doesn't own a copyright on the name & if she didn't use it on her other 2 girls, I say it's up for grabs.

So yes it would irritate me. Give her time to get over being selfish & realize that she can either get over it or make it an issue that you two can fight over.

Why can't you both use the name?

My brother has the same name as my cousin...and we all grew up living close by. They were both named after the same grandfather who had passed away.

That is nuts! Use it! My sister and I had the same girl's name, we were due one month apart...said she loved it but wouldn't use it b/c she knew I had it picked out. I said no way, if I have a boy (which I did!) and she had a girl, the name was hers. I still love the name, Layla, and it fits my niece well! So I see it, I have my Layla, it's just my niece instead of my daughter!
