Playdate frequency

I work FT and we do 1-2x a month. DH works on weekends so it's nice to have some adult interaction. It also minimizes the amount of fighting going on so it's a win-win for me!

Re: Playdate frequency

I don't do playdates.
She plays and socializes at daycare 3 days a week so I'd rather spare myself the torture of it since it's not really necessary for her IMO

Re: Playdate frequency

DS has a couple of friends he gets together with from school maybe once a month or so. I've become friendly with the moms since this is their 2nd yr together. He's 4.

I also do playdate/get togethers with friends and their kids once to twice a month on the weekend when we can. The kids play nice together and DH and I enjoy seeing our friends as well. We do Sunday football, Saturday dinners or doing an activity with the kids.

Re: Playdate frequency

I work full time but we do them at least 1 x a week, if not more. After school we try to get together with the neighborhood boys at least 2x a week, sometimes more. On the weekends, I will do about 1 or 2 park playdates with others. Sometimes its easier to have DS entertained with a friend!

In the summer, when I am off, definitely more!

Playdate frequency

Same as PP. she's at daycare 5 days, so I really don't go out of my way to. We seem to have a bday party or something on the weekends, so that's her play date. Or if we see our next door neighbor's kids outside she may play for a bit.

Re: Playdate frequency

I don't call them "playdates" but sure I love to get together with my friends who also have children. I get together with one of my best friends at least once a week (she has 10 month old twins). Another friend and I try to get together every couple of weeks (she has a DS my sons age 16 months). My son is in daycare 4 days a week as well. Growing up I don't remember having strictly enforced playdates but I was always at the neighbors house hanging out and if my mom was getting together with a friend who had a child around my age I would tag along.

Re: Playdate frequency

Ok someone enlighten me-- why do people say they try to avoid play dates or refer to them as torture? I haven't had one yet since my DS is so little but I always imagined it would be fun!!

I have absolutely no idea. Look, I am FAR from a social butterfly but for me, as a SAHM, playdates were like vital to my survival when my DC were little. They are 8, 6.5, and 3 now and I'm pretty sure none of us would be alive to tell the tale right now if it weren't for our playdates back then. We even had wine at some of them (shhhhhh...don't tell anyone Chat Icon Chat Icon )...

Oh, to answer the question...1x or maybe 2x a week. This is when my older girls were little...1, 2, 3 years old. Now they're in school FT and my little guy is just about 3 and in school half-day so we're sort of done with playdates.

Re: Playdate frequency

I work FT, but we are playdate central here. Not always at my home, but I may find a local activity and ask other moms to meet us there.

Re: Playdate frequency

We do 1-2 playdates per week. We do more or less depending on whether we have birthday parties that week.

Most of our playdates are with family friends where the families get together. We take turns hosting lunch/dinner on the weekends.

I am also part of a mom's club that has multiple playdates/events per week. I usually attend/host once every 2 weeks.

Then we have playdates with preschool classmates. We used to do a lot more but our 2 closer friends from preschool recently moved away. We get together with one classmate once every week or two.

I don't agree with this answer! my very 1st friends when I was very young - toddler age - were my mom's friends' kids. I have memories and there are pictures of playdates.

and to answer the original post...
I answered 2x a month. dd is only 11 months and only has 2 little "friends" - and on average, we see them each once a month. i'm a sahm mom though and I love them.
and to refer to someone else's answer about meeting out so no one has to cook or clean - I have done that as well, I still consider it a playdateChat Icon

This. Having to make small talk with a bunch of other moms is my idea of torture.

We get together with my friends who have kids at least once a week plus we see my nephew about 4 or 5 times a week. Other than that he goes to mommy and me once or twice a week when my SIL watches him. Basically he is around other kids a lot lol

I had tons of playdates when I was little. I was in a playgroup where they took turns meeting at each other's houses or the park.

Playdate frequency

I work PT so sometimes I just like spending time with DD alone. That being said Im not a huge fan of having play dates with people I don't know well, but def like play dates with my friends or my sister in law who have kids DD's age. I have also met some cool moms in my neighborhood etc that I like getting together with sometimes. Its not always play dates at someones house sometimes its just hey I am going to the park or this event.... want to go together? It is def nice to have DD interact and be entertained with other children sometimes!

And yes, I had play dates as a child,, my parents worked full time, so our play dates were just with my moms friends kids on weekends or as we got older, my parents made friends with our classmates parents and so they would set up "play dates" for the kids and themselves.
