I hate to say this, and I apologize for the spinoff...but when looking to adopt a dog last weekend, there are so many pitbulls that need homes. Are you a fan of doggie genocide? Let's face it as well, these poor dogs probably are not going to find homes. They are 4 years old in a shelter. I know it is how a dog is brought up, but these have probably already been brought up wrong. Who is going to take these dogs in?

i agree....
I was looking at Rotties before getting our dog and we went to a shelter to see them...
OMG one looked sooo mean...scsared the crap out of me...
Especially with these types of dogs being sooo commonly abused...How does a person risk taking on it when you do not really know the temperment all that well...
Should they attack.....you are screwed

they were scaring me online, I could not imagine in person all locked up. And I would have to wonder about the person's intentions with a pitbull from a shelter who is already an adult.

i think they are related to the mastiff, which are MASSIVE. think of a 200 pit bull...thats what the presa canario reminds me of.

i have no idea. i overheard a conversation a while ago, two boys were trying to breed a pit/mastiff mix. i nearly threw up. the mastiff is my favorite breed, and to breed them to pits for fighting disgusts me. the boys were having trouble getting a hold of a mastiff for breeding- said they were too expensive for a purebred. THANK GOD!

I don't know mix doesn't bother me. What bothers me is people spending so much on breeds when there are tons of dogs in shelters.

Re: Pet Breeding Q

well if it is a PUREBRED then i can see speninding money on it.

i have adopted dogs and bought from breeders

the whole point of getting a purebred is b/c it has the qualities uyou are looking for.
or you may want to show and such.

i persoanly have a love for purebred dogs.
i mena, certain breeds of course.

i will only get Chinese Cresteds fm now on. and maybe another Chi someday..

i know i wont find a Crested in any shelter!lol

i am soooo tired of hearing about "puggles" and "labradoodles" and "maltepoos" anmd such.

its ridiculous and only backyard breeders or millers would crossbreed.

Re: Pet Breeding Q

I guess I would rather help a dog, then buy a purebred. no matter if it was mixed.

Buying a purebred does have some advantages. The breeders are much more responsible and will not breed dogs that are known to have health issues unique to the breed, like hip dyspalsia in mastiffs. They screen their potential buyers, wanting to know if there are other animals in the home, what kind of space you have, how much time you are willing to commit to the dog, etc. Breeders dog are returned/abandond far lesst often than BYB's. i agree...PLUS some people really want a type of dog that fits their life. Meaning temperment and personality
And to get that you usually have to go to a breeder

Welp 1 of my dogs ( the other is a boxer) she cost us over 1k and she is NOT considered in the American Kennel Association as a pure bread , she is an American Bulldog, she is recognized in the Shutzand (sp) association and is a champion breed too. Her mix is Pit bull, bull dog, boxer and staffordshire (sp) terrier. Her breed is trying its hardest to be reconginzed in the states. I love my abbey girl!

edited - here is the website if anyone is interested in what they look like.

http://www.topline.org/

We got Abbey from a breeder in south hampton. That dog in the first page Toro is Abbeys daddy!!!
