Pet Breeding Q

I know there is a pet board but i think others can answer who do not have pets themselves:

Do you think there should be a mixing of breeds?

I went to St. James day and saw some very ODD looking dogs and was kinda shocked how much the mixing of the breeds goes on...

DO you think this is a good thing? Could this be bad?

Re: Pet Breeding Q

I am in search of a maltipoo for my mom. I kind of want to adopt one. But I am a huge fan of anything poodle mixed, for allergy and shedding reasons.

I don't really see any harm in it. I think incest breeding is so much worse. We once had a dalmation that had been breed wrong and too closely with his own family, that the vet said his brain was pushing up against his skull causing bad headaches. We had to put him down. Chat Icon

Re: Pet Breeding Q

Well true...but i don't think it should be done at all.
I guess what pops into mind are things like the Presa Canarios...

And although i do think that the way a dog was raised had a lot to do with temperment...I also think that some things can be inherent and when they mix breeds like this..a lot of bad qualities emerge

Re: Pet Breeding Q

oh, sore subject with me! lol
I am VERY VERY VERY against all of these "designer dogs" aka MUTTS>

i have nothign agianst mutts, but PURPOSLY breeding these dogs together is for one thing and one thing only : $$$$$$$$$$$$

the whole point of breeding is to better the standard.

these dogs have no standard. they can not show or anything...

but what i dont get is WHY OH WHY are people spending so much money on these things?!?!?!

Re: Pet Breeding Q

I hate to say this, and I apologize for the spinoff...but when looking to adopt a dog last weekend, there are so many pitbulls that need homes. Are you a fan of doggie genocide? Let's face it as well, these poor dogs probably are not going to find homes. They are 4 years old in a shelter. I know it is how a dog is brought up, but these have probably already been brought up wrong. Who is going to take these dogs in?

i agree....
I was looking at Rotties before getting our dog and we went to a shelter to see them...
OMG one looked sooo mean...scsared the crap out of me...
Especially with these types of dogs being sooo commonly abused...How does a person risk taking on it when you do not really know the temperment all that well...
Should they attack.....you are screwed
