Parent not allowed in room during dental work on a child?

DD recently injured some of her teeth and will need to have some work done. The dentist said that they do not allow parents in the room during the procedure and that they also use a "comfort blanket" (aka restraint) to keep them safe. I'm am not confortable with this at all. My question is do all ped dentists do this, especially not allowing the parent in the room? If that is the case idk what we will do:(

this. Run away from this dentist, fast. No way in hell would I let them touch my child without me in the room.

This sounds so shady to me. A parent not allowed in the room with a minor during a procedure? Restraints being used? Absolutely not. I'd run, not walk, to find a new dentist.

I wouldn't be comfortable with that. I would opt for light sedation over restraints and would need to be in the room.

We have been using That Broadway Smile in Massapequa. DS had a baby root canal done by them when he was little. I was in the room during the entire visit. They have a TV in above each chair to help distract the patient.

NO way!!

DS needed work done and he had 2 dental hygienist and the dentist in the room with him for 3-4 visits. Now he is pro for his check ups.
For his extraction I brought him an oral surgeon. The Dr. tried to do put Novocain in his mouth and DS was nervous with that. Once he saw that he canceled the procedure and told me to come back and they would sedate him. That is what we did.

As far as being back there. I was back there for 1 or 2 visits but it made it worse because he would lift his head to look for me.

If you find a great office there is no need for this. I would also look for a pediatric dentist.

Please please refuse to go along with this. I haven't commented in a while, and had to for this. My parents have a home in DE and there was a big case about abuse from a dentist there and no one knew because he forbid parents in the room. Yes techs were in there, but they can't look the whole time. You obviously don't feel comfortable about it, don't allow it.

WE use a Ped Dentist but its out east - they kind of push for the parents to stay out in the waiting room when the kids are older like 9 or 10 but I still go in as my 9 year old asks me too but for my 5 year old I am always in the room. Go with your instincts and find another dentist.

Eff that shit.
That is MY child, and they aren't going to tell me I can't be in the room while they restrain them.
I'd rather not get the work done at all then allow that.
Buh bye.
I'd find a new dentist ASAP

Re: Parent not allowed in room during dental work on a child?

I would not be ok with this and restraints? I also would want sedation over restraints. I feel that would make a child fear the dentist forever. How old is your child?

Hellllllll Noo!! There's no way that I would ever leave my young child alone with a doctor during any kind of procedure and it's incredibly shady to even suggest that! I would find a new dentist ASAP or simply tell the dentist it's not going to happen. Either I'm in there with her or we're walking.

The same here in NJ. They say the kids are better without parents there. But you can go in. I called around to a few places and they were all the same way.

Funny bc this is exactly where we went. I wonder why they told us no one is allowed in the room. Can I ask how old your DS was at the time?

You were allowed to go in during work? This is the place that told us no.

really?? the only work DS had done was a cleaning. but he would lose his mind when he was little and i had to hold him down. now he's fine and i just sit in the room with him. if they ever told me i can't be in there i'd leave the practice. thats upsetting cause i really like them.
