no more binky advice???

today is day 2 of cold turkey no Binky for DD and she asks for it but doesnt make a big big deal that she doesnt have it.
that is because she is now sucking her thumb.
Am I starting something new thats worse or do I give her the binky back or just stick with it?

DD #2 is coming in 20 days and I just think she should be starting to be off the binky since she doesnt have it all day in day care,
Thoughts??

I think the thumb is much worse than the binky. HOw old is she? We explained to my son when the babies comes you need to get rid of the binky because those are for babies.
The morning before I went into labor he went downstairs and threw it out. Maybe try something like that.
My 1st ds we made it sticky so it had to be thrown out.

We told Christopher that the binky needed to go because new and younger babies need it now and he's a big boy who is independent!! That would work great in your case bc you are having a second DC -- so, you can just keep reminding her that she is going to be a great BIG sister and now the new baby is going to need the binky so can she be a huge help and give all of her binks to the new baby!! That kind of thing - worked great for my nephew.

And no, I wouldn't give it back no matter what - make it like they went to never-never land until new baby arrives and then at that point they are hers bc she is little!

Give it back to her if she is going to suck her thumb. I took DD's away at 8 months and now she sucks her thumb. At 3 I am having a very hard time getting her to stop.

I'd give it back to her to avoid the thumb sucking.
That is much harder to break IMO.
For the record my DD had her binky until after 3 years old. She gave it up with practically no fuss when she was ready- close to 3 1/2.
I wouldn't push her if she isn't ready.

my mom never used pacifiers with me and regretted it. I was a huge thumb sucker. she claimed it ruined my teeth and she couldnt take my thumb away from me. I'm pretty sure i didnt stop sucking my thumb until like the 1st grade. embarrassing. so my mom pushes me on using the binky. I hate relying on it, but it makes her happy, and I know she'll just find something worse to replace it. She'll give it up when shes ready i hope... but she is getting more attached to it now at 18 months...

My DS is a thumbsucker and I have no clue how i'm going to get him to stop so I agree with the others.

DS quit the binky cld turkey around 20 months. He did fine until his baby sister arrived 3 months later - he tried to steal her binky and would have tantrums when she had one, so we gave him his again. Will try to quit once things settle down. I would give it back and try again in a few months.

I tried taking dd binky away before our youngest was born too. What a disaster! She was 20 months as well. She screamed and screamed. My Ped actually said to give it back to her. She said there was no harm letting her have it and give her some comfort while adjusting to the new baby. At 2.5 we snipped the end off her binky. We told her that the binkys were breaking because she was too big. She threw them right in the garbage and never asked again.

I wouldn't want my girls to start thumb sucking . You can get rid of the binky not their thumb. It's hard to say what I'd do but probably give it back for a few more months until she is more mature and understand more and than try again !

My daughter is 3.5 and stopped using her binky about 3 weeks ago! bedtime is when she misses it the most .

I would give it back to her. She is only 20 months, which in my opinion, is not too old to still have it. Especially if she is going to start sucking her thumb instead. My son was a binky fiend and had it until the easter bunny took it when he was 3.5. No speech issues, no dental problems. He just wasn't ready until then.
