Need advice on how to take BINKY away from a 23 month old?
SHE loves it.. Shes only uses it when she naps and sleeps. I heard about putting a pin hole in it...does that really work? I know that if i dont give it to her at night or nap she will cry :(....please help!! TIA
Edited to ask....will she become a horrible sleeper after? shes has always been such a great sleeper...

No personal experience... yet.. But what my sister did with my neice b/c she was a huge paci user.. she would have about 8 in her crib. She told her that their were other babies out there with no pacis.. and now that she was a big girl it would be nice if she would donate her pacis to them.. so slowly everyday my neice would give my sister one paci a day for those babies, and adventually pacifree.

DS is 21 months and still uses a binky as well. I know i am going to have a hard time getting it away from him. he only uses it for naps and at bedtime also. I am planning on telling him we have to give the binky's to the new baby...we'll see if that works

sorry..no advice here..but i can feel your pain...my son LOVES his binky!! He will be 17 months and I cry just thinking about takin it away from him. He too only uses it for naps and bed..but I just wish he can use it forever...lol Good luck...my dr said he can keep it til he is 2!

Sorry I have no advice. DS is 28 months old and I am trying to get rid of his. I am going to try anything to have him to get rid of it.

Welllllll....do you want me to be honest or lie?? LOL...ok, I'll be honest...
My DD was like yours...very attached at naptime and bedtime to her paci...
She cried for WEEKS!! I decided to do it cold turkey...
I forgot it one time while we were out and she wanted to nap in the car (by the way, she was same age as your DD)...she asked for it and as a joke I said I threw it in the garbage cause it was yucky...she just kept repeating "it's in the garbage, it's in the garbage"...so I decided that day was it...
She DID NOT become a horrible sleeper...to this day she is still a great sleeper...it just took her time to adjust, but she did and so will yours...
Just a funny side story...about a year ago (she was 3) she was playing with her baby doll and I found an old paci of hers and said, here give it to the baby doll....a few minutes later I was looking for her and found her in my CLOSET...in the CORNER with her back to me...I said "Summer, what's wrong" and she turned around and had the paci in her mouth............she was sucking on it like she was a HEROIN ADDICT!!!! I laughed and got annoyed at the same time...I made her walk over to the garbage can and throw it away!!!!!!

OMG this reminded me of DS when I tried to go cold turkey. I found him one day in the corner with 1 paci in his mouth and 2 others stuffed in his onsie (storing them for later). After that I couldnt take them away from him. I have to try again soon

DS is 27 months and still used his for bed and naps. I plan on taking it away by Easter. I am going to use Supernanny's technique.

OMG Supernanny did this TOO recently and it worked GREAT, she and the kid sat down, and put all the pacis in an envelope and dropped it in their mailboxfor "collection" -- the next day, there was an envelope from the pacifier fairy that had a small toy as a "Thank you" gift, it was awesome!!!

Cold turkey. That's what we did. There was no other way for us. He is actually a BETTER sleeper without it!

My friend said she tried to take it away from her 15 month old. And she was using the doll's paci and you know the 'nipple' part is so tiny. She was holding it to her mouth and try ing to suck on it. When she caught her, she gave the real one back

DD still uses hers at 26 months...
we tried to have santa take it away at christmas, but that didn't go over too well...
