My mother also insisted on being something other than grandma and she hates nana/nanny and granny.
Her alternative was "G". For my baby shower, she wrote, "Love, G" on everything. 
I told her there is no way I'm having DS call ger "G" (even though DH suggested we teach him to call her "G dog"). WE settled on Gram.

DS calls my mom Grammy.
I call my grandma Mamaw Very southern)
DH's grandmother is Mimi.

For a long time, my mother was GaGa to my nephew (he could not pronounce grandma).

Here are ours:
MIL and Step-MIL are both Grandma
My mom is Nanny
My grandmother is Nana
DH's grandmother is Gigi (as is Great Grandmother - she's 83 and a rip, this was her idea )

My friend's nephew calls his grandma "Granana" (a fusion of Grandma and Nana)

Both my grandmothers are Nanny. My nephew calls my mom and SIL's mother Nana.
One of my aunts is known as Ra-Ra by my cousins. I guess it was hard for them to say grandma and it stuck!
