My mom is also Mimi.
No clue where it came from but one day my son started calling my mom mimi and it stuck. He had always said grandma and we always called her grandma but one day he said mimi and called her that since. I hear it is popular. I have found I love my mimi shirts and picture frames online.

We have Grammie, Tita (short for spanish Abuelita), and great grandma was Mamo for awhile but now she is grandma too

My nephews call my mom Grandma. And my grandmother GiGi (Great Grandmother).
I call my grandmother (maternal) Grams and step grandmother (paternal) Grandma Rosemarie.
I have no idea what  will call my inlaws. Never came up in convo.
