The one thing that would be concerning me is why wouldn't she tell you what she went outside for????? That seems shady to me.
Are you sure she didn't go out to smoke a cigarette.....that's the 1st thing that entered my mind.

i am sitting here thinking the same thing lol

i really think it is was a maxi pad. she's a very shy person, so i can see her being emabarrassed to tell ME that, forget about talking to my husband about it.

I wouldn't fire her over that. I once locked myself out of the house when DC were sitting in their high chairs. I had to break back in! It happens.

As for the couch thing, you told her it was ok, so you can't really take issue with that. But definitely revise that and say no more sleeping anywhere on a high surface.

It could happen to anyone, I would never fire a nanny/babysitter over this (I'm going with what you posted)

I wouldn't fire her.

We keep a spare key hidden outside just in case anything like this ever happens.....I think it's a great idea.

ITA. I actually locked myself out when I was home on maternity leave and luckily was able to crawl through a window. We have since hidden a key.

I think it was an honest mistake that any one of us could have made.
Stuff like that is bound to happen.
If she was making a habit of it or being careless like that more than once, I could see questioning keeping her, but I think I'd give her another chance.
She did the right thing by going right to the neighbor, and acting quickly.
