tricky nanny situation
(for those who don't know my younger sister is my nanny)
so today she shows up at my house and tells me she has pinkeye. i send her home, and she goes to the doctor. the eye doctor tells her it's not pinkeye, her eye is red b/c her contacts are too small and she sleeps with her eyes open (how he knows this i have NO idea )
so she calls me at work to tell me this, and offers to take DS. i decline, saying that he is sleeping and if i need her help i will call her later. she said okay, and sounded fine with that arrangement.
but the truth is that i wanted to be 100% sure that she doesn't have pinkeye before she watches DS again.
to make a long story short (i know, too late ) what do you do when your nanny? do you still pay them for that day?
ETA: i am asking this because in her mind, afte rher doctor visit, she was perfectly capable of taknig DS for today).

I do not have a nanny..but I think maybe you should pay her..she did offer to take him. But I'm sure whatever you decide it will be fine...She is your sister!

Re: tricky nanny situation
Since it is Christmas Eve and she is your sister I would probably pay her. I would have a talk with her for the future though. Maybe give her a set amount of sick/personal time.

Re: tricky nanny situation
I don't have a nanny, but this is what I would do. I would decide on a set number of sick days per year that would be paid (like a real job would give you). That seems fair to me! Since it is Christmas, I would probably still pay her today, but use it is an opportunity to discuss the future sick time pay.

ITA. I have a nanny and she's taken two half sick days so far and I've paid her. We never discussed the # of sick days but she doesn't abuse it so I haven't felt the need to.
