My Master Bath Re-Do!
I'm not 100% done just yet - still needs a few more touches and I have to figure out the decor and accessories but the big stuff is finished (thank god!)
Here are a few pics of my master bathroom before (we thought it was a great space compared to our tiny apartment bathroom but we hated the cabinet):
I started by removing all the doors and drawers to the cabinet and then I stripped everything. (I'm pretty sure this step isn't necessary when painting but this is the process we did with our other bathroom's cabinet which we thought we would stain and ended up painting. Because that cabinet came out so well we used the same exact procedure). Then we sanded. After cleaning everything with a tack cloth (to remove all the dust) we were ready to paint. We used foam rollers made for cabinets. My DH did all the cabinet painting because he is so precise and such a perfectionist - not one roller mark, drip mark, nothing. He did an amazing job and the cabinets look like they were done by a pro.
After the cabinets were painted (we used Rustoleum's Painters Touch in Espresso Satin finish) we let them sit in our spare bathroom to cure for almost 2 weeks. I learned that different paints take different amounts of time to cure and the longer you wait the better. It gives the paint enough time to dry and harden.
In the meantime we prepped and painted the base of the cabinet and began work on the bathroom drywall. DH wanted to remove the builder grade medicine cabinet and I was a little nervous because we never did our own drywall work before. After watching a Bob Vila "How To" on You Tube (I swear to god  ) my DH felt confident enough to tackle the project himself. We removed the medicine cabinet, two towel bars and a toilet paper holder. I have to say that my DH is a natural because now he knows how to repair drywall  We hired professionals to do patch work in our other bathroom and my DH's work could pass for theirs - you would never know we had holes in the walls!
DH also removed the light fixture and did some electrical work so we could move the fixture over to be center with the bathroom's cabinetry. The builder's did not center the light fixture over the cabinet and it drove us nuts! Since we were removing the light fixture to spraypaint it anyway DH figured now was the time to move the wiring. Again he did a terrific job.
After that we painted the bathroom. Paint color is BM Fairway Oaks.
We also bought a bathroom cabinet from Target that we assembled at home. It is perfect to store our towels in. We do not have a linen closet so this was a good solution to the problem.
We got knobs and pulls at Lowes and they were the perfect finishing touch for the cabinetry. That hardware really makes the cabinets feel like a piece of furniture! We also swapped the hardware on the Target cabinet to match.
After all of our hard work here is the master bath so far:
I think I am going to get the smaller version of the Target cabinet for our toilet room to keep extra toilet paper and wipes in. I didn't include any pictures of inside that room since it's just a toilet right now
Excluding the Target furniture this project cost around $200 for supplies (everything we needed for the drywall repairs, the cabinet paint, wall paint, spray paint for the light fixture, cabinet hardware and the supplies).
It was totally worth all of the work we put in. If you are thinking about doing a project like this I say go for it! Take your time to do everything right - it took us a little over two weeks but we didn't rush anything. For $200 I think we really improved the value of our bathroom!

thanks! i know how you feel. i liked having a bigger bathroom but i hated looking at it, especially that cabinet that didn't match anything. in the kitchen i was sort of able to make the cabinet color work but having it in the bathrooms 
you know we are probably only a few hours away from eachother, we can have a big DIY fest and then go to the beach! LMAO!
i am so happy that i don't have to store my towels and washcloths in my bath tub anymore the cabinet takes up some space but it's nice to have a place for towels!

Nik this looks amazing! I love it! You inspire to me to do mine (mine look like yours did). Hmmm, maybe a winter project? It's discouraging for me to start b/c I do most of this work myself. Not that DH wouldn't help, he would. I just don't want him to. He's messy when it comes to projects and I'm a control freak!

it's funny b/c i kept telling DH that we are NOT having a baby until our bathroom is finished there are two projects that i made him promise we will get done before kids - our bathroom and our staircase....so far one down, one to go!

i don't blame you for being a control freak. when you put in that much effort you want it to look good and be done right. DH used to get mad because i would be breathing down his neck while he was doing a job  so i learned to back off a little bit, just a little! his handyman skills really evolved - before we moved he didn't know how to do anything! now he really amazes me!
we each did what were good at. i stripped all of the cabinetry. DH sanded and painted the cabinets. i removed all of the towels bars, the medicine cabinet, etc. and DH did all the drywall repair. i painted 90% of the bathroom. we both put in a lot of work and stuck to what we were good at - we've done enough projects around the house to know who is good at what and that helps things go smoothly.
i have to say the hardest thing was painting the cabinet. it's not really hard physically, it's just a lot of prep work and getting the paint on just right is an art form. i am glad DH did that part!
i would go for it. even if it takes a month you can still use your bathroom in the meantime - we did. it was annoying having our stuff all over the place but in the end it was worth that little bit of chaos. it wasn't even that expensive, just time consuming.

We've been debating between a nice closet system (that can hold the towels, sheets, etc) or a bathroom upgrade with more storage. Sucks not having a linen closet! And we haven't done either yet b/c we just can't decide and don't have the money to do both right now (the way we want it!)... but your bathroom has now pushed me towards the bathroom upgrade. Too bad our cabinets aren't nice enough to just paint them like you did, they are so cheap and flat.
