My little girls puppy is gone
Ex and I got Sprinkles the day Amber was conceived. She's had a skin condition that she's been battling for a few years and the medication finally took it's toll on her liver, etc. Sprinkles was only 5 1/2 years old. My little girl is devastated; that was her "puppy" and was calling for her when I got to ex's last night :(
RIP Sprinkles...Mommy, Daddy, Amber and Angel will miss you so much :( :( :( Image Attachment(s):

It was really awful. As we turned the corner to his apartment, Angel came running to the door. She didn't see Sprinkles, so she started calling for her. I almost lost it. When we got in, ex broke down and she instantly picked up on what was going down. She asked her Dad "Where is Sprinkles Daddy??" Sprinkles was in the car when ex dropped Amber at camp in the morning (was taking her to the vet) and she made him promise that she would see her later. Ex explained that she didn't make it and she fell apart. She pulled away from him and blamed him, saying "You promised me I'd see her later, you LIED". It was horrible. She screamed and cried and begged to see her. When we told her she couldn't, she ran under the kitchen table and stayed there until ex-MIL got there. She cried for nearly an hour and ex looked like he was going to pass out. I took him to get something to eat while ex-MIL distracted Amber with some activity. He had Sprinkles cremated but we ordered a stone from Harriet Carter and we're going to have a burial in my Mom's backyard (in the pet cemetary next to her other dogs). What is really strange is that Amber was in the backyard yesterday with my Dad and she made a ton of paper flowers/roses and put them on the dogs (Penny/Gizzy's) graves. She has never done that before.
Just before I left her for the night with her dad, she turned to me and said "I know that the doctor killed her, she didn't just die". We all looked in shock! She was with me when I had my Mom's cat put to sleep but she was only three at the time. I can't imagine that she would remember that (she was also buried in my lap and didn't actually "see" anything the doctors did). This morning she told her Dad that she'll see Sprinkles again because she'll be reborn into a goldfish that she'll win at the fair tomorrow night and then again someday into a puppy she'll someday own. Talk about coping skills.

I'm in tears reading what you wrote. Your heart must be breaking for her too, I'm so sorry.
Would the Rainbow Bridge help her grieve? Give her something she can look forward to, and concentrate on, as she comes out of her feelings of loss?

Wow, this story has me bawling on my couch at 3:20 am. I'm so sorry for all of you, losing a pet is so hard but having a young kid like that so heartbroken makes it so much worse. Amazing how kids can cope in ways we can't. Sending you lots of
