Monetary gift for engagement party
I know the ultimate answer is to give what we can afford, but I'd just like to know what you usually give. DH and I haven't been to an engagement party in awhile, and we haven't been to many in general either.
If you give monetary gifts at engagement parties, what do you usually give? (Both DH and I are attending.)
ETA: The party is for one of my best friend's brothers and his fiance.

Monetary gift for engagement party
aside from what you stated you can base the amount, on gifts, you received from this person, couple or in general in the past for the same event or similar event. I do that, i see what have I gotten and take it from that point.
I also, usually buy a gift if they are registered for engagement, bridle and save the $$ for the wedding.
If you you were going to buy a gift what would you spend and give that amount.
I am not stating an amount because it should be what you are comfortable with. I dont know your finances and I don't feel "what" people say is the norm is correct.

Re: Monetary gift for engagement party
I'm different from the norm, and prefer to give some kind of gift for an engagement.
Etsy is usually my go-to site for unique gifts, that you can find with personal touches specific to the couple.
We only really do money for the actual wedding.

Depends on where it is - if it's at the house I give $100. If it's in a restaurant $200-$250.

I would normally just get a gift and try to spend $50 at most cause then you will have to do a bridal shower gift and then a wedding gift

Monetary gift for engagement party
I feel like any party is at least $50 per person if it is at a restaurant. At a house I would probably do about $75. If they are registered at Bed Bath & Beyond, I would buy something around $100 and use a coupon.

$50 no matter where it is as it is not my responsibility to pay for their engagement party. I am giving a gift for them to use for their upcoming life together.

Monetary gift for engagement party
I don't think of them as gift giving events. So I wouldn't give money. Maybe a small gift just because.

Depends on the relationship. My DH usually give between $100-$200. Doesn't matter where the party is held to me.

Monetary gift for engagement party
My 2nd cousin that I wasn't close with and just me I gave $50. When my cousin got engaged who I am close with but not in the bridal party and DH and I both attended I gave $125. Since you said DH and you are both attending I say between $75 and $150 based on your relationship and what you can afford.

Re: Monetary gift for engagement party
I think probably $100 for a couple. However, my sister is having one this weekend and I will be giving more. I never give an actual gift because usually they aren't registered yet and if they don'the live together they have to store it.
I give money for engagement parties and weddings and a physical gift for the shower.

Really??!! $250!! For an engagement party???? That's crazy. I give that much for a wedding gift, I wouldn't even think to give that much for an engagement party.
The times I've gone to an engagement party I buy something nice for their house, maybe some pretty wine glasses or a serving platter. I don't spend more than $40-50.
ETA - I never give cash for an engagement party, only for the wedding gift.

exactly this I would most likely give $50 maybe $75.
but I am also the one who doesn't feel like they have to cover their plate at a wedding (another ridiculous concept). for weddings I give $75-$100 max per person
