Moms who exercise?

Does your LO STTN?
How do you have the energy to do it?

I used to work out 5 to 6 days a week. I was able to run 5K's fairly easy on the treadmill. I worked out up until my 3rd trimester. But then I had LO and before having her... swore I'd be working out after my csection recovery. But now she's 14 months and I haven't stepped foot in the gym yet... but i feel so tired waking up... the only time i have to work out are after 7pm (which is usually dinner time and then alone time with dh) and im tired and want to go to bed or weekends... I just can't seem to figure it out

Re: Moms who exercise?

I am very curious what people have to say about this. My DS sleeps through the night but I feel like even still, I'm just perpetually tired. I also feel like whenever there's a free moment, there's laundry that needs to be done, a nap I'd like to take, or just some down time to BS in front of the computer. Unfortunately since working out takes energy, it sadly becomes the last priority!

Moms who exercise?

The only exercise I do is taking dd on walks in her stroller and lately I've been jogging part of it. She still doesn't sttn every night, so on the days I'm really tired I usually don't make it out for a walk w her. But I've been trying to make sure I do at least a few times a week. I'll probably have to stop once it gets cold since I won't want her to be freezing in her stroller. I'd love to get back to a gym, but by the time dh could watch dd in the late afternoons I think I'd be too tired and unmotivated.

Moms who exercise?

I go to the gym a few days a week. It took a long time for me to just do it.

IMO it's just making the commitment. Even if I'm tired.....I feel great when I leave. I joined a gym that is open 24/7 so there are really no excuses.

DD STTN, but I can't exercise in the AM (what I did pre-baby) bc DH leaves for work way before my nanny comes.

So, I try to run at least once on the weekend, and do a barre class one night after work.

I'm also signing up for a half-marathon in the spring. Having a specific goal always gives me accountability, and forces me to be consistent with working out.

Moms who exercise?

My DD is almost 11 mo and has only STTN a handful of times. She slept well when I was on maternity leave, so I managed to run on the treadmill during her naps. Once I went back to work, though, I was too exhausted/stressed/time crunched to work out at all.

I finally got fed up with being out of shape and joined a gym in August. I go 2-3 times a week on my lunch hour, it's the only way. I also run with DD in the jogging stroller on the weekends. Is it as much as I was doing pre-DD? Hell no, but it's better than nothing and it really helps me to de-stress, which makes me a happier/better Mom.

I also sign up for races to help keep me accountable. I just did a 10K 2 weeks ago and signed up for another in 3 weeks. It's a lot easier for me to stay committed when there's money involved.

Moms who exercise?

nothing really good to add - except I feel the same way.
I try to get some activity and am trying to change my eating habits to make up for lack of exercise... but I just understand how many feel with the lack of energy/ time... its really frustrating

Re: Moms who exercise?

I can't work out in the mornings like i did before DD but I do my best to squeeze in 1 lunch time work out during the week and at least two work outs before catching a train home from the city. DH works later than me and we pick up DD together from the babysitters so i have a little time there and then usually 1 morning on the weekend. Its not easy and it took me a long time to get the routine right but i feel better and have more energy when i make the time to exercise.

Re: Moms who exercise?

i hate working out to begin with and it took a long time before i actually started to work out. when i actually did start working out to loose weight what i foung that helped was as soon as i got home from work i would change into work out clothes as soon as i walked in so when DH was home and could take over with DD i would go work out.

I used to do 30 day shred its a 20-30 minute work out so it was quick. I took sumba classes for a little bit so when it was time to go i was dressed and just left the house.

if i didnt change right when i walked in it always took more convincing for me to change in to workout clothes and actually work out.

I worked out pre-DS all of the time and it took a really long time to get back into that routine again. The only way it works for me is if I go during my lunch break. No way I can wake up in the morning and go and at night doesnt work with my schedule.

I also sign up for races (some of which I run with DS in the stroller) to help keep me accountable.

I forced myself to start going again because I was tired all of the time and had no energy. It's crazy how working out gives me more energy and makes me feel so much better. I also make sure I'm eating enough after working out and having green smoothies.

Some of my friends use DVDs to work out at home, and that works for them.

I'm so jealous you LO sttn. The doc just gave us the go ahead so we turned off all. Alarms and crossed our fingers. He is now our alarm like clockwork...2:25 and 5:55.

I barely have enough energy to type this. I've been adamant about DH and I creating together every night. I think until he gets on more of a schedule we're going to have to take turns working out after work.

Moms who exercise?

My son started STTN at about 5 months old. I start back running at 6 weeks. I went back to work at after 14 weeks but left after 2 months however I was still working out i would just somehow suck up being exhausted and go run a few miles. I am doing the NYC marathon in 12 days so I do find time to squeeze it in but if he was not STTN it would have been tougher. Also I am not working so I am more flexible as to when I can workout and I have my mom around the block which helps me tremendously! Its the only thing I really do for myself and I really enjoy it. You will get back eventually. I know its rough trust me I remember going to work being a zombie then i would run 3 miles and basically go home feed DS and pass out!

Re: Moms who exercise?

I literally get to the gym at 5 or 5:30 a.m. It sucks but I do it. After a while it just becomes routine. When it's light enough out early in the morning I'll be running by 6 a.m. Outside. Right now that's not an option so I go to the gym. I have found that if I don't do it before everyone gets up I don't get it done. As a mom everything and everyone else comes first I find so I literally go when I can't have an excuse not to.

My Chat Icon is 7 months and my Chat Icon is almost 3. They both sttn. I workout 5x a week at home. I'm doing T25 now but I've done insanity,p90x, chalean extreme, I basically own every beachbody DVD. I don't always have the energy to do it, but I always feel better after I do.

This. A few times a week i suck it up and get up at 4:30 and exercise on my treadclimber in the basement while DH and kids are sleeping. DD is 4 and DS is 13 months and sttn. Its not fun getting up early but i love the feeling when i'm done and getting ready for work knowing my workout is done for the day!

DVDs are always good and i highly reccommend the 30 day squat challenge. It really tones the legs/butt and you can do the squats in front of the TV.

I was just saying today how athletic i used to be, I used to run half marathons. Now the only thing I do is during my lunch break at work I walk, and on weekends I will take walks with DS (although it gets hard when it gets colder). I figure at least its something.

My DD STTN and is 2 months old... I've been going to the gym at least twice a week for the past few weeks. I am determined to lose this baby weight... Yes I'm def tired but I've always enjoyed running so I'm just trying to get back into the swing of things... I'm motivated to fit into my pre-pregnancy clothes. I ran until 6-7 months pregnant and now I'm already back up to running 2 miles. U guys can do it!! Just think how sexy ur going to look pushing ur LO around with an amazing body! Chat Icon

Moms who exercise?

Hell to the no. Like everyone said, there just isn't time.
Dh and I work opposite schedules so that really makes it hard. Ladies that work out on your lunch breaks- how do you swing that?

This is why I am looking into a double jogging stroller. Otherwise I would need to stay up after ds's 4 am feeding to work out.

Re: Moms who exercise?

Either on my lunch break or as SOON as DS goes down for the night. Of course there are 100 other things to do around the house, but working out, for me, is mental -- it keeps me sane, so I do my best everyday to give myself that 45 minutes. I also put my workout clothes on as soon as I get home from work so that I don't have an excuse.

Re: Moms who exercise?

It was definitely harder when DD was younger, but I made it a priority and got my ass outta bed super early and to the gym.
She didn't sleep through the night until 8 months old, and I was nursing. So I had to get up, pump, leave a bottle, get to to the gym, shower and be ready by 6:30am.

You'll probably end up feeling LESS tired if you do get yourself active. Make yourself a schedule, or set your self a goal with milestones and just do it. You said you have down time after 7pm, pick 2 nights and go to the gym. Find a starting strategy and go from there.

Re: Moms who exercise?

I've got 2 boys ages 4&3 and still can't.find too much time. I do Zumba 1x a week at night when I can leave.them with daddy. Other nights I will do 20 minutes on the treadmill but that's maybe 2-3 times a week.

Working out in am is virtually impossible, hubby leaves by 6 & I have no family in.NY.
