MIL question..
discussing this at work. Do you call your MIL by her first name or mom/ma? I never know what to call her so I avoid it at all costs!

Been married 9 years. I call her by her first name. It's still weird calling her by her first name so I try avoid saying it I never could see myself calling her mom.

I call her by her first name.
It's been 10 years and I still feel funny calling her by her name...which is weird because we have a great relationship.

I call her mom and I cringe on the inside when I do it!!! Lol

MIL question..
I either call her "Grammy" or by her first name, but she's my dh's stepmom and he also calls her by her first name (his mom passed away). I do call my FIL dad.

Before AJ I just avoided it as much as possible. She’s Chinese so her first name that she chooses to go by is “FUN” which is just strange to me. Hey Fun, how are you? Fun, can you had me a knife?
Just awkward. I understand it’s a popular name and not strange to her at all but its odd for me. So I just avoid it.
Now with AJ, and now that she’s old enough to talk and we live so far away, we just refer to her as grandma. She won’t call me on my phone and if I get her by accident (we have google voice) then she’ll actually say “this is Jimmy’s mom” haha.
We both avoid each other’s names as much as possible. Both of us know it and both of us seem to be ok with it.
oh and she'll tell AJ the same thing I do.. 'lets go find mama' and that's my sign that she needs my attention (she being my MIL, not AJ). LOL I trust her that she can take care of AJ without my intervention and when I do the same "lets so see what Grandma's doing" she knows I can see fine, but wanted her attention.

I'm in the 'don't call her anything' boat. Both her name and mom feel super awkward to say. I wish they'd come up with a term to call a MIL.

LOL this is exactly me! Sorry I am no help. But now that we have kids I will say grandma when I am with them. I am just not comfortable calling anyone other than my mom, mom.

I call her by her first name, but I wouldn't at all be opposed to calling her mom. I love her sooo much. My mom called her MIL "mom." I think it's just an old tradition.
