Another Gift Question .... Need help with MIL's 60th?
My MIL is not the easiest person in the world to buy presents for. She doesn't really have hobbies or interests. She's a homemaker, who now has an empty nest. She wouldn't appreciate a spa day or a vacation. A night out in the city totally isn't her idea of a good time. She's not great with electronics and already has a digital camera, a printer made for the camera, 2 roombas, a food saver, a keurig, an ipod
So far the only thing I can think of as a present I think she'd appreciate is if the kids (me, DH and BIL) made dinner for the family. She's always the one cooking, planning for when we go out, etc.
We'd also get her some small physical gift, but I'm not sure exactly what yet ...
So ... what do you think? Good idea? Bad idea?

Re: Another Gift Question .... Need help with MIL's 60th?
she sounds just like my MIL... same situation. homemaker who now has an empty nest. shes not into clothes, spas, jewelry or anything like that... we usually just end up taking her out to a nice dinner for her birthday. or... because she doesn't spend any money on herself, when we're at her house we try to look for things that maybe we could "upgrade" for her... like one time we noticed she didn't have any real serving dishes, so we got her the nice corningware set. she loved it! so maybe look for something like that- that she might want, but doesn't want to spend the money on...

I would arrange to take her and FIL out to dinner at one of their favorite restaurants. I'm sure she'd appreciate a nice night out with her son and DIL. If you want to get an additional gift on top of that, what about a piece of jewelry? Necklace or earrings? A framed family photo?

Re: Another Gift Question .... Need help with MIL's 60th?
do we have the same mil??? my MIL is 60 in march. Dh wanted to buy her a new door for her house...ummm..no.
so i thought of taking her to DC for the weekend to see the first lady exhibit at the smithsonian. DH is thinking about it.
she'd love nothing more to spend time with her son, since SIL has been in london for almost a year now.
maybe a broadway show all you can go see together??

What about a necklace or ring that has the birthstones of her kids or grandkids?
There are a few at the bottom of this PAGE at Red Envelope.
